M53 Motorway Shut Down After ‘Major Crash’ Causes Chaos

M53 Motorway Closed in Merseyside After Serious Collision

A major incident has brought traffic on the M53 motorway in Merseyside to a standstill, with the southbound carriageway closed between junctions 5 and 7. According to reports from the Express, the closure is a result of a serious collision near junction 6, Eastham Interchange.

The incident, which occurred near Ellesmere Port, has prompted a significant emergency response, with units from Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire & Rescue, North West Ambulance Service, and National Highways attending the scene. The Express reports that the collision is believed to have taken place near the Vauxhall (Cars Only) and Eastham Oil Terminal.

A diversion route has been put in place to minimise disruption to traffic, with drivers being advised to follow the route marked with a solid square symbol on local road signs. The diversion route takes motorists off the M53 at junction 5, onto the A41 New Chester Road southbound, before turning right onto the A550 Welsh Road southbound. From there, drivers are instructed to turn left onto the A540 Parkgate Road southbound, and then left again onto the A5117 eastbound past Cheshire Oaks. Finally, motorists can re-join the M53 at the A5117/M53 junction 10 roundabout.

The Express understands that the closure is likely to cause significant delays, and drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly. The incident is a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for motorists to exercise caution when driving.

As the situation continues to unfold, the Express will provide updates on the M53 closure and diversion route. In the meantime, drivers are urged to follow the instructions of emergency services and road signage.

The cause of the collision is not yet known, and an investigation is likely to be carried out by Merseyside Police. The Express will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as more information becomes available.

In related news, motorists are advised to check for updates on traffic conditions before embarking on their journey. The Express recommends using a satnav or traffic app to plan the most efficient route and avoid congestion.

The M53 closure is a significant incident that highlights the importance of road safety and the need for motorists to be aware of their surroundings. The Express will continue to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
