Road Closures in Billingham: Motorists Warned of Disruptions
A major road in Billingham is set to be closed temporarily due to safety concerns, Stockton Council has announced. The B1275 Cowpen Lane and Central Avenue will be shut to traffic at 8pm on Saturday, May 17, and will remain closed until 3pm on Sunday, May 18. This closure is necessary due to the potential danger to the public or expected serious damage to the road, according to the council.
The closure is part of a temporary traffic regulation order, published on May 9, under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The order will introduce a clearway on the west side of the northbound carriageway of Cowpen Lane, between Belasis Avenue and Central Avenue. Additionally, a clearway will be implemented on the north side of the eastbound carriageway of Central Avenue, from its junction with Cowpen Lane in an easterly direction for approximately 108 metres.
According to the council’s notice, "The Highway Authority being satisfied that access to the said road should be prohibited because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works." The council has assured that the order will only be in force at times when traffic management signs are erected. However, the order may remain in place for a maximum period of 18 months.
Motorists are advised to be aware of the disruptions and plan their journeys accordingly. Traffic management signs will be put up to inform road users of the restrictions. The council has also announced that another closure is planned, lasting from 8pm on Saturday, June 7, to Sunday, June 8, at 3pm.
