Tragic House Fire in Brent Claims Lives of Mother and Three Children
A devastating house fire in Brent, northwest London, has claimed the lives of a 43-year-old woman and her three children, aged 4, 8, and 15. The fire occurred in the early hours of the morning on Stonebridge, near Wembley, and is currently being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.
According to Sky News, the police were called to assist firefighters shortly after 1:20am on Friday. Upon arrival, firefighters found a well-developed fire involving two adjoining properties. Despite efforts to rescue those trapped inside, the woman and her three children were pronounced dead at the scene.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported that eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters responded to the blaze. The fire was brought under control by around 3:25am, but not before two terraced houses, each with three floors, were severely damaged.
A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. The police are working closely with the LFB to establish the cause of the fire. Superintendent Steve Allen, from the Met’s local policing team in northwest London, said: "My thoughts and the thoughts of all the emergency services are with the four people who died in the fire, as well as the two people who were taken to hospital."
The London Ambulance Service deployed an air ambulance, incident response officers, advanced paramedics, and a hazardous area response team to the scene. Two people were taken to hospital, and their conditions are currently being monitored.
The local community has been left shaken by the tragic incident. Witness Mohamed Labidi, 38, described the family as "very good people" and said it was "really shocking" to hear about their deaths. A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It’s horrible, we saw people running outside. It’s hard to process."
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, expressed his condolences on social media, saying: "This is devastating news and my thoughts are with the family, friends and wider community of the four people who sadly have lost their lives."
LFB assistant commissioner Keeley Foster said: "This is an extremely tragic incident, and the thoughts of everyone across the brigade are with those impacted by this incident." The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
Local MP, Dawn Butler, also paid tribute to the family, saying: "Devastated to see the fatal fire at homes in Tillett Close last night. My prayers are with the family and friends affected by this very sad tragedy." The community continues to come to terms with the tragic loss of life in this devastating house fire.
