Man Like Mobeen Bows Out: Guz Khan’s Comedy Concludes

TV Review: The Final Season of Guz Khan’s Hit Comedy ‘Man Like Mobeen’ and More

The highly anticipated final season of Guz Khan’s hit comedy series ‘Man Like Mobeen’ premiered on BBC Three last night, bringing to an end the story of Mobeen, a working-class Muslim former drug dealer trying to do good in Birmingham. According to The Guardian, the series has been a critical and commercial success, with its unique blend of humour and heart resonating with audiences.

In an interview with The Guardian, Guz Khan revealed that he was keen to bring the story to a close, saying: "I’m excited to see where Mobeen’s journey takes him in the final season." The fifth and final series sees Mobeen desperate to save his sister Aqsa, who is stuck in the UAE. However, there’s one major problem – he isn’t allowed to leave the country. As reported by The Guardian, Mobeen is offered a few dodgy solutions, and will have to take one of them if he wants to secure a future for him and his sister.

In other TV news, The Guardian reported that the second season of ‘Signora Volpe’ premiered on U&Dram last night. The series, which stars Emilia Fox as British spy turned detective Sylvia Fox, follows Sylvia as she tries to start a new life in Italy. However, trouble soon follows her, and she finds herself embroiled in the alleged murder of a pillar of the community. As quoted in The Guardian, Fox said: "I’m thrilled to be back for another season of ‘Signora Volpe’. The character is so much fun to play, and I love the escapist nature of the show."

Meanwhile, BBC Two aired ‘VE Day 80: We Were There’, a special programme marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The programme, which was presented by Rachel Burden, featured first-hand testimony from those who witnessed the second world war. As noted by The Guardian, the programme included interviews with child evacuees and women who worked for the war effort at home, as well as Jamaican volunteers and servicemen involved in the liberation of Belsen.

Channel 5 also aired a documentary about Holly Willoughby’s stalker, Gavin Plumb, who was convicted of soliciting the kidnap, rape and murder of the former This Morning host. According to The Guardian, the documentary, titled ‘The Plot to Kill Holly Willoughby’, featured experts in criminal psychology and stalking behaviour giving insight into Plumb’s motivations.

Finally, Channel 4’s ‘Taskmaster’ returned with a new cohort of comics ready to be humiliated and weirdly glorified by the experience. As reported by The Guardian, the latest volunteers include Fatiha El-Ghorri, Mathew Baynton, Rosie Ramsey, Stevie Martin and Jason Mantzoukas. The show’s unique blend of humour and absurdity has made it a hit with audiences, and The Guardian praised its return.
