Man United in Delap Stalemate as Deal Looms

Manchester United Close to Signing Liam Delap as Ipswich Town Striker Weighs Options

Manchester United have agreed the framework of a deal for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, with sources close to the club confirming that a deal is contingent on the 22-year-old’s decision on his next move. According to ESPN, United have informed Ipswich that they will meet the £30 million release clause in Delap’s contract if he gives the green light for a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have reportedly agreed the outline of personal terms with Delap’s representatives, and the transfer could move quickly once the young striker makes a decision on his future. ESPN sources suggest that Chelsea are among a number of clubs to have expressed interest in signing the former Manchester City youngster.

Delap, who scored 12 Premier League goals in 36 games for Ipswich last season, has been impressive despite the Tractor Boys’ relegation back to the Championship. The striker moved to Portman Road last summer in a deal worth up to £20 million, and it appears that he will be on the move again this summer. ESPN reports that United are attempting to act quickly in the transfer market, with Wolves striker Matheus Cunha close to becoming their first signing of the summer.

According to ESPN sources, United have indicated that they will meet the £62.5m release clause in Cunha’s contract at Molineux, with the Brazilian set to sign a five-year deal. The Red Devils are also interested in signing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

As ESPN reports, Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans have been confirmed as the club’s first departures of the summer. United are also looking to permanently offload Jadon Sancho, Anthony, and Marcus Rashford, with the latter available for a fee of £40m after his loan spell at Aston Villa came to an end.

Rashford is said to be keen on a move to Barcelona if the newly-crowned La Liga champions firm up tentative interest expressed in the January window. As the transfer window heats up, Manchester United’s move for Liam Delap could be set to gather pace, with ESPN sources suggesting that the young striker’s decision could come soon. With several top clubs interested in his services, Delap’s next move is set to be one of the most closely watched transfers of the summer.
