Manchester United Eye Four Strikers as Part of Summer Transfer Plans
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing four strikers as part of their summer transfer plans, with a former Premier League flop among their options. According to a report from Foot Mercato, as cited by Football365, the Red Devils are in the market for a new striker, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having been criticised for their performances this season.
The team has struggled in front of goal, scoring just 27 goals from open play this season under head coach Ruben Amorim. A huge squad rebuild is required, and the addition of a new striker is seen as a priority. Manchester United are linked with several potential options, but it remains to be seen who they will sign amid competition from rival clubs also in the market for a striker.
One name that has emerged as a potential target is Moise Kean, the 25-year-old Fiorentina star. Kean was deemed a big star for the future as he progressed through the ranks at Juventus, and Everton signed him for around £25m in 2019. However, he proved a major flop at Everton, scoring just four goals in 39 appearances. Following his £11m move to Fiorentina last summer, Kean has enjoyed a renaissance, scoring 23 goals and providing three assists in 41 appearances for the Serie A outfit this season.
Football365 reports that Kean’s form has tempted Manchester United to ‘flag’ him on their ‘shortlist’, which also features Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Delap is the cheapest option, with a £30m relegation release clause in his contract, while Kean is also available for an affordable fee in July. Kean’s release clause, which is valid from July 1 to 15 this summer, stands at 50 million euros (£43m).
As reported by Foot Mercato and cited by Football365, “While Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting) appears to be the priority for the Old Trafford residents – especially in the event of qualification for the Champions League (via the Europa League), Liam Delap is also being monitored, as is Victor Osimhen, who remains a solid alternative. A list to which Moise Kean must now be added. According to our indiscretions, if Ruben Amorim were not to secure a spot for the Champions League, the British management would set their sights on Osimhen or Kean. With a definite advantage for the 25-year-old Italian who appears to be a more profitable profile.”
Kean is also being ‘closely monitored’ by Bayern Munich, adding to the competition for his signature. Manchester United’s interest in the Italian striker is seen as a boost for the club, with Football365 stating that they are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season. With a number of potential targets emerging, it remains to be seen who Manchester United will ultimately sign to bolster their attacking options.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United’s plans will become clearer. One thing is certain, however: the Red Devils are in the market for a new striker, and Moise Kean has emerged as a potential target. With his impressive form for Fiorentina and his reported availability for an affordable fee, Kean could be a shrewd signing for Manchester United as they look to rebuild their squad.
