Manchester United Set to Sign Viktor Gyokeres in Deal Worth €65m-€70m
A stunning report from Team Talk has claimed that Manchester United, not Arsenal, are set to sign Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth €65m-€70m. According to the report, Manchester United are ‘confident’ they will ‘finalise an agreement’ with the Portuguese club, with Ruben Amorim, who previously managed Gyokeres in Lisbon, playing a starring role in the alleged progress made behind the scenes.
The report, citing sources, states that Gyokeres’ relationship with Amorim has now swung the deal in Manchester United’s favour, and there is growing confidence they will complete his signing. Gyokeres has been in impressive form this season, scoring 52 goals in 48 matches and providing 12 assists. His deal with Sporting contains a release clause worth €100m, but a ‘verbal pact’ made between Gyokeres, his agents, and Sporting’s hierarchy can see the striker leave for a much-reduced fee.
Manchester United are also reportedly close to signing Matheus Cunha in a £62.5m switch from Wolves. Cunha has been convinced to join and is on board with the move, even if the Red Devils do not have Champions League football on offer next season. Talks on personal terms are understood to be at the final stages, and Manchester United intend to trigger the Brazilian’s release clause. Cunha is expected to line up in one of the two slots behind the striker in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, with Gyokeres set to be the new striker.
However, it’s worth noting that trusted sources, such as David Ornstein, have insisted that Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is actually Manchester United’s No 1 striker target. Delap can now be signed for just £30m following confirmation of Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship. Regarding Gyokeres, the Sporting hitman is understood to be Arsenal’s preferred striker option amid a growing acceptance that Alexander Isak is out of reach.
As reported by Team Talk, Gyokeres is the top target of new sporting director, Andrea Berta, and as recently as last week, the publication claimed that Arsenal were ‘leading the race’ for his signature. Until a more respectable source weighs in on Manchester United’s alleged move for Gyokeres, it may be wise for Red Devils fans to not celebrate too early.
The news will come as a boost to Manchester United fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new striker. With Gyokeres’ impressive goal-scoring record and Amorim’s familiarity with the player, the deal could prove to be a shrewd piece of business for the Red Devils. As Team Talk reports, “sources say the forward’s relationship with Amorim has now swung the deal in United’s favour and there is a growing confidence they will complete his signing.”
In related news, Manchester United have been warned that signing Liam Delap is ‘extremely risky’, while Paul Scholes has expressed concerns over the potential signing of Matheus Cunha. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s potential exit from Old Trafford has been complicated by Aston Villa’s interest in the player.
According to Team Talk, Manchester United’s pursuit of Gyokeres has taken a significant step forward, and the Red Devils are now in a strong position to sign the striker. The report also states that Gyokeres’ four-goal haul last time out against Boavista brought his tally for the season to a remarkable 52 goals in 48 matches.
