The adidas Manchester Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, April 27th, and thousands of runners and supporters will be taking to the streets of Manchester for one of the most anticipated events of the year. According to a report by the Manchester Evening News, the marathon is the UK’s second-largest and one of Europe’s most iconic, drawing participants from all over the world to the vibrant streets of Greater Manchester.
The annual race is expected to bring a significant boost to the local economy, with last year’s event seeing over 32,000 participants bring a fantastic £5.3 million boost to the local economy. A record high of 36,000 runners are expected to lace up their favourite pair of trainers for this year’s 26.2-mile challenge, with all places selling out over five months ago. The action kicks off at 9am on Chester Road, adjacent to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.
Several roads within the city will be affected by the event, with road closures and traffic diversion plans in operation. The Manchester Evening News has provided a comprehensive list of road closures and times for both Saturday, April 26th, and Sunday, April 27th. Road closures will be in place from 8am to 11:59pm on Saturday and Sunday, and from 4am to 7pm on Sunday.

Additionally, there will be one-way traffic restrictions in place for some roads, including A56 Chester Road and Great Marlborough Street.

These suspensions will be clearly marked in accordance with Manchester City Council protocol, and people are advised not to park cars in any of the parking bays during the suspension period.
The event organisers recommend using Metrolink to travel to and from the event, as there are several stops close to the event village, start line, and finish line in Trafford. For further information and updates on public transport, you can follow @MCRMetrolink and @OfficialTfGM on Twitter.
In an effort to ensure public safety, Manchester City Council Parking Control will be removing any vehicles parked in contravention of the suspension period, and there may be a charge to recover an impounded vehicle. If you require further advice, please email [email protected].
