Matt Baker’s Wife Nicola Shines as a Children’s Author
Countryfile presenter Matt Baker has shared his admiration for his wife, Nicola, as she embarks on a new journey as a children’s author. In an interview with Gabby Logan on her Mid Point podcast, Matt gushed over Nicola’s secret talent for writing, which has led to her securing a publishing contract for a quartet of children’s books.
According to DevonLive, the couple met at a disco show in Cleethorpes, where Matt used to perform. He recalled their first encounter, saying, “I ended up in this disco inferno and I was backflipping on stage, I used to dress up in wigs… One of the clubs that we went to was around the northeast in Cleethorpes and Nicola used to go to the nights.” Matt revealed that he spotted Nicola at the club and it was “love at first sight” for him.
The couple has been married since 2004 and has two children together. They also co-present their own programme on Channel 4, Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales. Matt shared that Nicola had always considered writing as a hobby and had written numerous novels, but she never stopped pursuing her passion for writing.
Nicola’s literary journey has reached new heights with her recent publishing contract for a series of children’s books, A Whistledown Farm Adventure. The series follows the story of a young girl named Ava, whose parents go abroad, and she ends up living on her aunty and uncle’s farm. Matt said, “She’s written about what people have latched onto in Our Farm in The Dales. It’s (about) a young girl called Ava whose parents go abroad, they’re part of medicine and they go off to sell some stuff in America and she ends up living on her aunty and uncle’s farm and it literally is a voyage of discovery.”
As reported by DevonLive, Matt expressed his pride and excitement for Nicola’s new career move, saying, “She’s flying now and it’s done her so [much] good, do you know what I mean? I do, it’s brilliant. I’m so excited for her and I’m so proud of her.” He also revealed that he sees a “different woman” in Nicola, one who has found a new sense of purpose and passion in her writing.
The couple’s collaborative work on Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales has likely influenced Nicola’s writing, with her books drawing inspiration from their farm. Matt shared, “She is literally for the first time experiencing these things and realising that she’s got a real gift for it and a real love for it.”
As DevonLive reported, Matt will return to our screens on Countryfile this weekend, joining forces with Margherita Taylor in Herefordshire. The new episode airs on BBC One at 5:30 pm. With Nicola’s newfound success as a children’s author, the couple is surely set to make headlines again in the future.
