Boston Blue: Meet the Cast of the CBS Show
CBS is expanding the Blue Bloods universe with its Boston Blue spinoff, and fans are eager to meet the new cast. According to US Magazine, the show follows Donnie Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan as he takes on a position with the Boston P.D.
The original Blue Bloods series, which premiered in 2010, followed the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). The show ended in December 2024, but CBS confirmed it wasn’t completely over by picking up a show centered around Wahlberg’s character.
Wahlberg took to Instagram in March 2025 to express his excitement about the new show, writing: "So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!"
While several Blue Bloods alums expressed interest in making appearances, it remains to be seen who will actually join Boston Blue. Tom Selleck discussed joining another project in the Blue Bloods universe, telling Parade in December 2024, "I’m open to suggestions, because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked. I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere."
Vanessa Ray, who played Eddie Reagan on Blue Bloods, teased to TV Insider in October 2024, "I would do anything with these people. So, yes, of course. I don’t know what world it would make sense for Eddie to be in a spinoff at all. But if they need to put me in a wig and dye my eyebrows and I’ll play a different character just so I get to hang out with all of them more, then I’ll do it."
CBS has been busy building out the cast with several newcomers. Let’s meet the Boston Blue cast:
Donnie Wahlberg
Wahlberg returns to play Danny Reagan, the former NYPD officer who takes on a position with the Boston P.D. According to US Magazine, once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
Sonequa Martin-Green
Martin-Green will play Wahlberg’s onscreen partner, Lena Peters. In a statement, she said: "We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long. And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time."
Ernie Hudson
Hudson is set to portray Lena’s grandfather, Reverend Peters, who is "a renowned pastor of an historic Baptist church in Boston." According to the official character description, the Peters-Silver family patriarch is "an open-minded, welcoming man that is comfortable in all traditions, he is happy to preside at his church’s traditional Sunday Baptist service." Reverend Peters is the father of Boston’s District Attorney Mae Silver and grandfather of Lena, Superintendent Ashley Silver and rookie patrol cop Isaac Silver.
Maggie Lawson
Lawson has been cast as Boston Police Department superintendent Sarah Silver, who is described as "well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family."
The Boston Blue cast is shaping up to be an exciting new addition to the Blue Bloods universe. With a mix of familiar faces and newcomers, fans are eager to see how the show will unfold.
