Meghan’s Royal Recycling Raises Eyebrows: A Fashionable Faux Pas?

Meghan’s Unsettling Flog of Clothes Worn by Princess Charlotte and Prince George Reveals Truth of Missed Opportunities

A recent promotion on the Duchess of Sussex’s Instagram page has raised eyebrows among royal watchers, as Meghan showcased a selection of expensive and aspirational children’s clothing that bears a striking resemblance to outfits worn by the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Daily Mail reports that the Duchess’s "Easter edit" on her ShopMe page featured a range of childrenswear from brands such as Petite Plume, Boden, and Trotters, which are also favourites of the Waleses.

According to The Daily Mail, the promoted items included blue gingham pyjamas by Petite Plume, which were worn by Prince George to meet the Obamas at Kensington Palace in 2016. The same brand’s pyjamas are also featured on Meghan’s page, leading many to wonder if the Duchess is paying homage to the royal family’s style or simply copying it. As The Daily Mail notes, Petite Plume is an American brand with the tagline "Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but of moments," which echoes Meghan’s own sentiments.

The Daily Mail understands that Meghan’s choice of brands may not be entirely surprising, given her history of admiration for the Waleses’ style. Princess Charlotte has often worn floral smocks by Trotters, while Boden is a brand that has produced a "Very British Baby" collection in honour of Prince Louis’s birth. However, the similarity between the outfits promoted by Meghan and those worn by the Waleses’ children has sparked concerns that the Duchess is lacking in originality.

As The Daily Mail reports, Meghan had previously expressed her desire to distance her children from the traditional royal style, telling People magazine that they would not be dressed in "outdated" clothing such as "knee socks and smocking." However, her recent promotion on Instagram suggests that she may be taking a different approach. The Daily Mail notes that Meghan’s online shop is a new low for Team Sussex, rendering her just one of millions of stay-at-home influencer mums who prefer to avoid doing any real work.

The promotion has also sparked questions about Meghan’s ability to curate a unique and original selection of products. As The Daily Mail points out, there are many other brands making childrenswear that Meghan could showcase, such as Zara, Mori, Monsoon, Lallie London, Baboushkini, and Organic Zoo. Instead, the Duchess appears to have opted for a more nostalgic and aspirational approach, which may be seen as an attempt to milk her remaining connection to the Royal Family.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, LIZ JONES writes, "No, this isn’t about what Meghan loves and has in the closet. It’s yet another way to smear herself not with compote but with class." The article concludes that Meghan’s recent promotion is a missed opportunity for her to showcase her own unique style and instead appears to be a copycat of the Waleses’.

The Daily Mail quotes LIZ JONES as saying, "I expect Harry hates all the twee stuff, having once longed to grow out of the sort of smock-bodiced gear that has been the royal go-to for generations – to kick off his proper leather Trotters shoes and pull on trainers." The article highlights the complexities of Meghan’s approach to her role as a member of the Royal Family and her desire to establish her own brand and identity.

The implications of Meghan’s choices are far-reaching, and The Daily Mail suggests that her approach may be seen as a strategic mistake. As the article notes, "Her online shop is a new low for Team Sussex, rendering her just one of millions of stay-at-home influencer mums who prefer to avoid doing any real work." The article concludes that Meghan’s recent promotion is a reminder that being a member of the Royal Family requires a level of originality and authenticity that is currently lacking in her approach.
