Eurovision Song Contest: Scott Mills Reveals Tradition with Rylan Clark
BBC Radio 2 star Scott Mills has shared his excitement for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, revealing a tradition he enjoys with co-star Rylan Clark that “could be a problem” this year. The two stars, dubbed “Eurovision experts” by the broadcaster, will provide commentary for the song contest’s semi-finals, live from Basel, Switzerland.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Scott Mills and Rylan Clark will be providing commentary for the semi-finals, which take place on Tuesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 15. As they prepare for the contest, Scott revealed that he and Rylan have a tradition of attending the EuroClub, a club in the host city that plays Eurovision music all night. “We go to the EuroClub, which is a club in whichever city is hosting, and it just plays Eurovision music all night, and we go every night,” Scott told Best magazine, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. “I’m doing the Radio 2 Breakfast Show this year, so that could be a problem, but I’ll go when I can.”
Scott Mills and Rylan Clark are looking forward to a joyous week together, immersing themselves in the occasion and having a great time. “Rylan and I were on the phone the other day saying how much we’re looking forward to one, just being there and because it’s our favourite and two, just spending some time together because I haven’t seen him a lot recently,” Scott said, as quoted in the Manchester Evening News. The semi-finals will feature all 37 competing countries, with ten nations from each one moving to the grand final on Saturday, May 17.
The semi-final on Thursday will feature the UK entry, Remember Monday, with their track ‘What The Hell Just Happened?’ The UK is considered one of the Big Five nations, along with Italy, Germany, Spain, and France, meaning it has a guaranteed spot in the final. Switzerland is also afforded this privilege due to being this year’s host. The Manchester Evening News previously reported that Scott Mills believes people are “sleeping on our entry” this year, as Remember Monday aims to secure the glass microphone, which would make them the first UK entry to win since Katrina And The Waves in 1997.
Speaking about the bookies’ low odds on the group, Scott said: “Well, it’s just great to have a girl band back in the contest for the UK, I adore these girls. They’ve got what it takes. I never take any notice of Eurovision odds because Sam Ryder was so far down in them and then look what happened,” as reported by the Manchester Evening News. “But I really think people are sleeping on our entry a little bit because these girls can sing, they’ve got harmonies, like the best Wilson Phillips record ever. They have history in musical theatre, so they know how to perform, both to a TV camera and to a crowd, and it’s a dramatic song, so I have high hopes. I think they’re brilliant and I wish them the best of luck.”
Fans can catch the Eurovision Song Contest today (Tuesday, May 13) from 8pm to 10.20pm on BBC One. The contest will also be broadcast on BBC Two and streamed online. With the semi-finals just around the corner, Scott Mills and Rylan Clark are set to bring their unique commentary style to the contest, providing viewers with an entertaining and informative experience. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Scott and Rylan’s enthusiasm for the contest is sure to make it a memorable week.
The contest has become a beloved tradition for many viewers, and the Manchester Evening News will be providing extensive coverage of the event. With expert analysis and commentary from Scott Mills and Rylan Clark, viewers can expect a thrilling and unforgettable experience.
