Milly Alcock Reveals ‘House of Dragon’ Execs Promised Acting Coach

Milly Alcock Reveals Higher-Up Told Her to Get an Acting Coach for House of the Dragon

In a recent interview on The Tonight Show, Australian actress Milly Alcock, who plays the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen on the hit HBO series House of the Dragon, revealed that she was told by a higher-up on set that she would be receiving an acting coach. According to Entertainment Weekly, Alcock shared the story on Monday’s episode of the talk show, providing insight into her experience on the award-winning Game of Thrones prequel.

Alcock recalled that on her second day on set, someone "very high up" pulled her aside and informed her that she would soon be receiving an acting coach. The actress, who has starred as the younger Rhaenyra across the first two seasons of House of the Dragon, seemed taken aback by the comment, whispering the person’s remarks as if to soften the blow. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Alcock shared her reaction, saying, "On my second day on House of the Dragon, one of the — I’m not gonna say who, but someone very high up — pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach,’"

The comment from the higher-up clearly had an impact on Alcock, who appeared to take it as a sign that she was not meeting expectations. As she noted on The Tonight Show, "It just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job," The Entertainment Weekly article states that Alcock joked, adding, "You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’"

However, The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon was quick to defend Alcock, telling her that she was a fan favorite from the very first episode. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Fallon declared, "Oh, I’m so sorry. From the very first episode, you were a fan favorite," as the crowd rallied behind her. He also jokingly addressed the producer, saying, "Look at her! You’re totally wrong, buddy."

The praise from Fallon comes as no surprise, given the success of House of the Dragon, which won a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series in 2023. As Entertainment Weekly notes, Alcock’s co-stars and she can certainly hold their own in the competitive world of television. When Alcock downplayed her role in the show’s success, Fallon breezily replied, "Yeah, you did. You won. Your show won."

Production on season 3 of House of the Dragon is currently underway, with showrunner Ryan Condal previously telling Entertainment Weekly that fans can expect "our biggest season to date, both in terms of ambition and just the practical size, the amount of sets." As quoted in the Entertainment Weekly article, Condal noted, "We’re cresting that narrative parabola here and starting to come down into, if not the endgame, the midpoint and getting into the late Act 2 and moving onto the start of Act 3,"

Alcock’s comments on The Tonight Show provide a unique glimpse into her experience on House of the Dragon, and her candor has endeared her to fans even more. As Entertainment Weekly reports, the actress has clearly proven herself to be a talented and dedicated performer, and her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen will undoubtedly continue to captivate audiences in the seasons to come.
