Body Found in Search for Missing Scottish Man Greg Monks

A body has been found in Portugal during the search for a Scottish man who disappeared on a stag do in the resort town of Albufeira. According to reports from STV News, Greg Monks, a 38-year-old from Cambuslang, was last seen leaving the main strip in Albufeira in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28.

Monks had arrived in Portugal on the evening of May 27 as part of a stag do and was on a night out with friends. The groomsman told the group he was leaving around 2am to return to his accommodation. A search operation was launched after he failed to return, and local police confirmed on Wednesday that a body had been found in the Cerro de Águia area.

In a statement, Portuguese police said: "After several diligences and the presumed route taken in the early hours of that day, since the last sighting, the body was located in a vacant and very rugged terrain." The force said an autopsy would be carried out once the body is removed.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has confirmed that they are supporting the family of the British man reported missing in Portugal and are in contact with the local authorities. According to STV News, Monks was last seen in the popular resort of Albufeira on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, leaving the strip. The news provider reported that a body was found in a vacant and rugged terrain, and an autopsy is to be carried out.

The search operation for Monks had been ongoing since his disappearance, with local authorities working to locate him. The confirmation of the body’s discovery brings closure to the family and friends of Monks, who had been anxiously waiting for news.
