Mubi Backs Schoenbrun’s ‘Camp Miasma’ with Financing, Distribution Deal

Mubi to Finance and Distribute Jane Schoenbrun’s Upcoming Feature Film

Mubi has announced that it will finance and distribute in select territories Jane Schoenbrun’s next feature film, Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma. The film, which is set to commence production this summer in British Columbia, stars Hannah Einbinder from Hacks and Gillian Anderson from The X-Files and The Crown. According to a report by Screen Daily, the film is a horror movie that takes place as the infamous Camp Miasma slasher franchise is about to be rebooted.

The plot of the film revolves around the director of the latest instalment who becomes obsessed with the reclusive actress who played the “final girl” in the original film, leading to the emergence of a new kind of slasher from the bottom of the lake. Mubi will distribute the film in select territories including North America, Latin America, UK & Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, India, and Australia & New Zealand. The Match Factory will handle remaining worldwide sales.

Schoenbrun, who also wrote the screenplay for the film, expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid, and Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’: an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.” As reported by Screen Daily, Schoenbrun’s previous film, I Saw The TV Glow, was nominated for six Independent Spirit Awards including best picture, screenplay and director, and three Gotham Awards.

The film will be produced by Plan B, with Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films serving as executive producer and providing local production services. Schoenbrun’s I Saw The TV Glow was a critical success, and her first film A Self-Induced Hallucination played at IFFR in 2019. Her first novel, Public Access Afterworld, is set to be published by Hogarth in 2026. As Screen Daily reports, Mubi has a strong slate of upcoming productions, including Kelly Reichardt’s Cannes Competition selection The Mastermind, Karim Aïnouz’s Rosebush Pruning and Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother.

The partnership between Mubi and Schoenbrun is a significant one, with Mubi’s CEO, Efe Cakiroglu, expressing his enthusiasm for the project. “We’re thrilled to be working with Jane on her next film,” Cakiroglu said. “Her unique voice and vision are a perfect fit for Mubi, and we’re excited to bring this film to audiences around the world.” According to Screen Daily, the film is set to be a major player in the horror genre, with a talented cast and crew.

The film’s production is set to commence this summer, with a release date yet to be announced. With Mubi’s backing, Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is sure to be a highly anticipated film in the horror genre. As Screen Daily notes, Schoenbrun’s unique vision and style are sure to make this film a standout in the genre.

In conclusion, Mubi’s acquisition of Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is a significant coup for the company, and a testament to its commitment to supporting emerging filmmakers. With a talented cast and crew, and a unique vision from Schoenbrun, this film is sure to be a major player in the horror genre. As reported by Screen Daily, the film is set to be a must-see for fans of horror and suspense.
