Nemeth Thrives in AEW’s Unlikely Underdog Narrative

AEW’s Hurt Syndicate Storyline Praised by Nic Nemeth

In a recent interview on "Busted Open Radio," TNA Tag Team Champion Nic Nemeth shared his thoughts on the ongoing storyline involving Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) and The Hurt Syndicate in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). According to Nemeth, the way AEW is handling this "fish-out-of-water" storyline is some of the best work the promotion has done.

Nemeth, who was speaking on the radio show, praised AEW for drawing out the storyline and creating a unique dynamic. "It’s just been an ongoing thing, and it’s been some of my favourite stuff that AEW is doing," Nemeth said, as reported by Wrestling Inc. "They’re drawing it out. It’s a different look for them because [The Hurt Syndicate] are killers that look the part, and they’re having some fun. You’re getting to know them personally, but also you get a totally different MJF to where he’s not the cocky guy that he is everywhere else."

The storyline in question involves MJF attempting to join The Hurt Syndicate, a group consisting of MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley. For weeks, MJF has tried to gain the group’s approval, offering them cars, women, watches, and a championship promise as incentives. Finally, on the May 14 episode of "AEW Dynamite," MJF’s attempts proved successful, as MVP, Benjamin, and Lashley granted him a contract signing to formalize his membership.

Nemeth noted that MJF’s character is being portrayed in a unique way in this storyline, as he is not the usual cocky and confident persona fans are used to seeing. Instead, MJF is shown to be trying to impress The Hurt Syndicate members and gain their approval. "He’s in a totally out of his element thing and he’s trying to impress these guys and you don’t get the full answer each way," Nemeth said. "You get almost and almost."

The build-up to MJF’s potential membership in The Hurt Syndicate has been slow and deliberate, with the group previously only giving MJF a nod of approval through MVP and Benjamin. To gain Lashley’s approval, MJF had to adhere to The Hurt Syndicate motto of "We Hurt People," which he later did by brutally beating down both Dante and Darius Martin.

Nemeth expressed his excitement for the potential consequences of MJF’s membership in The Hurt Syndicate, suggesting that AEW could throw a "big party" and have MJF get beaten up in front of a crowd. "Either way, I want to see next week, which is one of my favourite parts of wrestling when it is not the main event of the show, doing something that says I want to see what happens next week," Nemeth said. "That is how you book a wrestling show."

As noted by Wrestling Inc., Nemeth’s comments on the storyline were made on "Busted Open Radio," and if used, should be credited as such with a h/t to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription. The comments offer a unique insight into the world of professional wrestling and the creative decisions behind AEW’s storylines.

Nemeth’s praise for AEW’s handling of the Hurt Syndicate storyline is significant, given his experience in the wrestling industry. As a TNA Tag Team Champion, Nemeth has likely had a front-row seat to the creative process and has a deep understanding of what makes compelling storytelling in professional wrestling.

In conclusion, Nic Nemeth’s comments on the Hurt Syndicate storyline offer a fascinating glimpse into the world of professional wrestling and the creative decisions behind AEW’s storylines. With his praise for AEW’s handling of the storyline, Nemeth has highlighted the promotion’s ability to create engaging and unpredictable storylines that keep fans invested. As the story continues to unfold, it will be interesting to see how MJF’s membership in The Hurt Syndicate plays out and what consequences arise from his actions.

The Hurt Syndicate storyline has been a major talking point in the world of professional wrestling, with many fans and critics praising AEW’s handling of the story. With Nemeth’s comments, it is clear that the promotion is on the right track with this storyline, and it will be interesting to see how it continues to develop in the coming weeks.

As the wrestling world continues to evolve, one thing is certain: AEW’s Hurt Syndicate storyline is one to watch, and Nic Nemeth’s comments offer a unique insight into the creative process behind the story.
