Newcastle United Prepare to Host Chelsea in Premier League Match
Newcastle United will look to continue their impressive form when they host Chelsea in a Premier League match at St James’ Park. According to BBC Sport, the Magpies have won seven of their last 11 Premier League home games against the Blues, including both matches under manager Eddie Howe.
In fact, Newcastle have a decent record against Chelsea, having won 14 of their 37 league meetings, with 11 draws and 12 defeats. The BBC Sport reports that Chelsea have won 31 Premier League games against Newcastle, only beating Tottenham and West Ham more often in the competition.
The two teams have already met once this season, with Newcastle securing a 2-0 win over Chelsea at St James’ Park in the EFL Cup. This was a significant victory for the Magpies, as they last beat Chelsea twice in the same campaign in 1986-87, and last beat them in two different competitions in 1931-32.
Newcastle have been in excellent form lately, accumulating 43 points from their last 20 league games, which is the most points they’ve collected over a run of 20 games in the competition since 2002-03. As BBC Sport notes, only Liverpool have accumulated more points than Newcastle over the same period.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have won each of their last three matches in the Premier League, after a difficult spell that saw them win only three of their previous eight games. The BBC Sport reports that Chelsea recorded an impressive expected goals total of 3.13 and a non-penalty expected goals total of 2.35 in their last match against Liverpool, which they won 3-1.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has a decent record against Chelsea, having won seven of his 20 meetings with the Blues in all competitions. However, each of these seven victories has come against a different manager, including Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, and Mauricio Pochettino. As BBC Sport notes, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has been in excellent form lately, scoring 19 goals and registering 23 goal involvements since the start of December.
The Swede could score in a fourth successive league game against Chelsea, a feat he has only achieved previously against Brentford and Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães has become the first Premier League player this season to win 100 fouls, and has done so in each of the last two campaigns.
Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández has been directly involved in six Premier League goals in 2025, scoring three and assisting three, and has been in excellent form since the turn of the year. As BBC Sport reports, Fernández has created 34 chances from open play, second only to Mohamed Salah, and has won 15 possessions in the final third, joint-third in the Premier League.
The match between Newcastle and Chelsea promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams in good form and looking to secure a win. As BBC Sport notes, Newcastle will look to continue their impressive form and secure a win over Chelsea, while the Blues will aim to make it four successive league wins and climb the Premier League table.
