Nicole Kidman’s Wigs Take Center Stage in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Season 2
Nicole Kidman’s wigs have become an integral part of her on-screen persona, with each role bringing a new and distinct hairstyle. Her latest transformation is a sharp blonde bob, which she sports as the enigmatic wellness guru Masha in the second season of Hulu’s ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’. According to Variety, Kidman’s hairstyle was carefully chosen by her longtime hair and makeup artist, Noriko Watanabe, to reflect Masha’s strong intentions and agendas.
In an interview with Variety at the Season 2 premiere event in Beverly Hills, Kidman revealed that the blonde bob was the only wig she considered for the role. “Everything is very specific,” she explained. “It’s chosen for a reason because she’s got very strong intentions and agendas.” Kidman also praised the efficiency of the wig selection process, stating that it was “very quick” and that she and Watanabe were able to “come up with the character and vibe, how she should be and what she should look for” in a short amount of time.
Kidman reprised her role as Masha for the second season, which deviates from the novel of the same name that inspired the first season. According to Variety, Kidman welcomed the opportunity to play Masha again, citing the freedom to explore the character without the constraints of a book. “This time it was free rein,” she said, adding that it’s “fun to play” a woman with power. “So many times, I play women that are in a very precarious place emotionally and Masha is just a badass,” Kidman remarked.
Fellow cast member Christine Baranski also spoke to Variety about her experience playing a wealthy client of Masha’s in the second season. Baranski joked that she plans to rethink her future contracts after playing the role, stating that she wants to ensure that her characters have “great clothes, funny lines, and a young lover” in all her future projects. Variety reports that Baranski’s character arrives at the spa with her much younger lover, played by Aras Aydin.
The second season of ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ also marks the acting debut of singer-songwriter King Princess, who plays a celebrated pianist alongside her partner, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers. In an interview with Variety, King Princess discussed the significance of representing a queer couple on the show, stating that it’s “not just gay representation for the sake of it.” Rather, the show features a “toxic queer couple” that adds depth to the narrative. “It’s two people who are extremely flawed,” King Princess explained. “We find them in the midst of a six-year relationship with all their baggage and their bullshit. We’re reaching maximum lesbian capacity. Something’s gotta give, you know?”
