Nike Blunder: Chelsea’s New Kit Leaked Day Before Launch

Nike Accidentally Leak Chelsea’s 2025-26 Kit in Social Media Gaffe

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Nike appeared to leak images of Chelsea’s 2025-26 kit one day before its official launch in a quickly deleted social media post. The sportswear behemoth has made kit for the west London side since Chelsea terminated their partnership with adidas in 2016.

The Blues were five years through a 10-year deal with the German kit-maker, but called time on the agreement by paying its £40million termination clause. October of that year saw Chelsea make history with the largest commercial deal in their history, worth a then-record-breaking £900m over 15 years.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Nike shared the post on social media site X (formerly Twitter), with the caption: “Recharged in electric blue. Trimmed in brilliant white. Worn with West London pride.” The images which accompanied the brief announcement appeared to show a Chelsea blue shirt with a white v-neck collar, and a faint honeycomb design on the chest of the jersey redolent of goal netting.

The Daily Mail reported that within minutes, the sportswear company realised their mistake, and swiftly deleted the post. On their own social media posts building up to the launch, Chelsea have posted a series of pictures of a branded coffee cup, along with the launch date 16.05.25.

The pared-down shirt design appears to come in stark contrast to this season’s “blue flame design”, which features swirling white accents on the electric blue shirt, orange trim on the badge and Nike logo, and an orange stripe on the sleeves. However, one feature the new kit does share with the one that the Blues have worn for the majority of the campaign is a lack of sponsor.

As noted by the Daily Mail, Chelsea had been without a shirt sponsor for much of the season after failing to ink a new deal ahead of its kick-off. Recent weeks have seen the Blues sign a short-term deal with Middle Eastern luxury real estate company, but this agreement will wrap up with the final match of the Premier League season.

The leak of the new kit design is likely to be a disappointment for Chelsea, who had been building up to the official launch on Friday. The Daily Mail’s report suggests that the club had planned a much-hyped reveal of next season’s kit, which was spoilt by Nike’s social media gaffe.

The new kit design appears to feature a light honeycomb print, similar to goal netting, and a white v-neck collar. The images posted by Nike showed the shirt in electric blue, trimmed with brilliant white. The Daily Mail’s report confirms that the official launch of the kit is scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025.

In related news, Chelsea’s commercial deal with Nike is reportedly worth a significant amount, highlighting the importance of the kit design and branding for the club. The Daily Mail’s report provides further insight into the club’s history with kit manufacturers, including their previous partnership with adidas.

The leak of the new kit design has generated significant interest among football fans, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts on the design. The Daily Mail’s report provides a detailed look at the new kit design, which is expected to be officially launched on Friday.

The official launch of the kit will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, as confirmed by Chelsea’s social media posts. According to the Daily Mail, the club has been building up to the launch with a series of teaser posts, including images of a branded coffee cup.
