Barack and Michelle Obama Enjoy Date Night in New York City After Addressing Marriage Rumours
Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have once again put to rest rumours of marital troubles with a romantic date night in New York City, reports People.
According to an article published on People, the power couple was spotted grabbing a bite to eat at a restaurant in the Lowell Hotel on Tuesday, May 27. The outing comes just weeks after Michelle shut down rumours about tensions in her marriage with the former president.
The former first lady, 61, looked stunning in a long black dress with sheer sleeves and ruffles, paired with low black heels and a handbag. She completed the look with statement-making bangles and earrings. Michelle had a beaming smile on her face and appeared to be enjoying her time with Barack, 63.
Their joint outing comes after Michelle addressed rumours about their marriage on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett podcast in May. Michelle firmly shut down those whispers, saying that "everybody would know" if they "were having problems." She added, "I’m not a martyr. I would be problem solving in public. ‘Let me tell you what he did,’ " as quoted by People.
Michelle also expressed her feelings of security in her marriage, stating, "The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was really ever gonna quit at it, ’cause that’s not who we are," People reported. "And I know that about him. He knows that about me," she stressed.
The rumours about their marriage picked up steam after Michelle skipped President Donald Trump’s January inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier that month. However, Michelle explained that she is "finally owning my wisdom" at 61 and has a new perspective on life. She noted that she "never" would have skipped something like the inauguration before, but her priorities have changed.
Michelle also discussed her decision to prioritise her own needs and desires, saying, "What do I want to do in this moment? As a box-checking, a person who has been box-checking her whole life, doing the right thing, trying to always be an example, always going high, I think now I earned a little bit of ‘well, how do I feel?’" People quoted her as saying.
The couple, who wed in 1992 and are parents to daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, have been open about their marriage and have spoken about the challenges they have faced. In an episode of her IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson podcast, Michelle pointed out that the public was quick to presume that she was not attending events due to struggles with Barack.
Barack also addressed their marriage in a conversation with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, saying that he was "in a deep deficit" with Michelle after he left the White House. He shared, "So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things," People reported.
The date night in New York City is a testament to the couple’s strong bond and commitment to their marriage. As People reported, the couple’s outing has put to rest rumours of marital troubles and has given fans a glimpse into their enduring love story.
