Final Destination Bloodlines Sets Record for Oldest Person Set on Fire Onscreen
A new record has been set in the film industry, with stuntwoman Yvette Ferguson becoming the oldest person to be set on fire on camera at the age of 71. Ferguson was brought out of retirement to play Mrs. Fuller in the upcoming film Final Destination Bloodlines, and her scene has broken a world record.
According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Zach Lipovsky revealed that Ferguson was cast in the film’s opening sequence, which features a premonition of a fire in the fictional Skyview Tower. In the scene, Ferguson’s character is burned alive, setting a new record for the oldest person to be set on fire on camera.
"We lit so many different people on fire, including breaking the world record for oldest person on fire with Yvette Ferguson, who did that full body burn in the silver dress," Lipovsky told Entertainment Weekly, as reported by People.com.
Ferguson’s scene was witnessed by her costar, Brec Bassinger, who recalled being on set when Ferguson was set on fire. "I was within her vicinity. God, it was beautiful. Everyone started clapping," Bassinger said. "She was so pumped."
Bassinger, who plays Iris in the film, was thrilled to have been a part of the experience. "I was on set when they lit [Yvette] on fire!" she exclaimed. Ferguson also shared a photo from the filming on her Instagram, which she captioned in part, "I had the opportunity to do a fire burn for @burnettsimonstunts @fire4hirestunts 🔥 Thank you for a great opportunity and check it out in theatres coming soon!"
The film’s co-director, Adam Stein, was also enthusiastic about Ferguson’s achievement, commenting on her post, "World record breaker!!! 🔥" Ferguson’s daughter, Becky Ferguson, who is also a stunt performer, was proud of her mother’s achievement, commenting, "So proud of you Mom! ❤️🔥"
Final Destination Bloodlines is set to be released in theaters on May 16. The film’s directors, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, were excited to bring the sequence to IMAX, where it will be shown on a 60-foot screen. "We were very excited to bring that to IMAX because when you see it on a 60-foot screen, you really feel the vertigo of being 400 feet in the air," Stein told Entertainment Weekly.
The film is the latest installment in the Final Destination franchise, which is known for its creative and often gruesome death scenes. With Yvette Ferguson’s record-breaking scene, Final Destination Bloodlines is sure to be a memorable addition to the series.
As previously reported by People.com, the film’s use of practical effects and stunts has been praised by fans and critics alike. With its release just around the corner, Final Destination Bloodlines is shaping up to be a must-see film for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike.
