Voter Registration Deadline Looms for Oregon’s May Special Election
As the May 20 special election approaches, Oregonians who wish to participate in the democratic process must ensure they are registered to vote by the end of Tuesday, April 29. This is a crucial deadline, as those who fail to register by 11:59 p.m. on April 29 will not be able to cast their ballots in the special election.
According to a report by KGW, the special election includes races for school district boards, rural fire district boards, and local ballot measures, among other things. This election provides an opportunity for citizens to have a say in the governance of their local communities.
New Oregon voters can register online with a valid Oregon driver’s license, a driving permit, or an ID, as reported by KGW. Those who do not have one of these documents will need to fill out a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card, which can be obtained at the U.S. Post Office, Multnomah County Library locations, or at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building on Southeast Morrison Street.
Voters who are already registered can update their information online or with an Oregon Voter Registration Card, as stated by KGW. This is a convenient option for those who need to make changes to their registration details.
KGW reports that for those who need assistance with their ballot or registering to vote, or who have a disability or speak a language other than English, help is available at the Voting Center Express. Located inside the Multnomah County East Building on Northeast 8th Street, this centre provides support for voters who require it.
The Voting Center Express, as reported by KGW, opened on Monday and will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Voters can also return their ballots there or obtain a new ballot to replace one that has been lost or damaged.
To ensure you stay on top of the election timeline, here are the key dates to keep in mind, as reported by KGW:
- Voter registration deadline: 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, April 29
- Ballots begin to be mailed to voters: Wednesday, April 30
- Voters should have received their ballot: Thursday, May 8

As the deadline for voter registration approaches, it is essential that Oregonians take the necessary steps to ensure they can participate in the May special election. By registering to vote and staying informed about the election process, citizens can make their voices heard.
