Parvez Hossain Emon Breaks Tamim Iqbal’s Record, Achieves Milestone

Bangladesh’s Parvez Hossain Emon Emulates Idol Tamim Iqbal with T20I Century

Bangladesh’s tour of UAE, 2025, got off to a thrilling start as Parvez Hossain Emon, a young and talented batter from Chattogram, etched his name in the record books by scoring a T20I century against the hosts. The 23-year-old’s blistering knock of 100, compiled in just 53 balls, not only helped his team post a competitive total but also saw him surpass his childhood idol, Tamim Iqbal, who had been the lone Bangladeshi centurion in T20Is until then.

According to Cricbuzz, Parvez’s century was a milestone moment for him, as he grew up watching Tamim Iqbal and tried to imbibe the same aggressive mindset that separated the former captain from his peers. “Yes, I was well aware of Tamim bhai’s [record] as he scored that hundred against Oman,” Emon said after his Player of the Match performance against UAE. “I try to watch all his games. Alhamdulliah, I am feeling good as I scored a century. After returning home, I remembered that Tamim bhai scored the first century. I am happy because I used to watch Tamim bhai’s game as a child and now my name is right next to his,” as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Parvez’s century was marked by sensational power-hitting and precise placement, as he smashed nine sixes in the game, becoming the first Bangladeshi to achieve this feat in a T20I. His innings, however, was not without its challenges, as Bangladesh’s batting collapsed at the other end, with only Towhid Hridoy scoring more than 20 runs. Despite this, Parvez kept the scoreboard moving before getting dismissed in the last over.

As reported by Cricbuzz, Bangladesh’s skipper Litton Das admitted that there was room for improvement despite earning a 27-run win in the first T20I. “Definitely, it was a good total. The wicket was very good for batting and the way Emon batted was outstanding,” said Litton. “But we have to finish better. We couldn’t score much in the last three overs.” The Bangladesh captain, however, was pleased with his bowling unit, which kept UAE to just 164, despite a stuttering start to the chase.

Bangladesh will take on UAE in the series-deciding second T20I at the same venue in Sharjah on May 19, looking to seal the series 2-0. The tourists will take confidence from their bowling unit’s performance, which saw Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib share seven wickets between them.

The win marked a solid start to Bangladesh’s tour of UAE, with Parvez Hossain Emon’s century being a highlight of the match. As Cricbuzz reported, Emon’s achievement was a significant one, not just for him but also for Bangladesh cricket, as it underlined the country’s growing depth in batting talent.

Bangladesh’s victory was a comprehensive one, with their bowlers doing an excellent job to restrict UAE to a total that was well within reach. As noted by Cricbuzz, Litton Das was pleased with the way his bowlers performed, saying, “I always know my bowlers can bounce back at any time. I trust our bowling unit… They batted very well in the middle overs and we need to learn from this – to understand what kind of bowling works on this pitch.” With the series-deciding second T20I just around the corner, Bangladesh will look to build on their momentum and seal the series 2-0.

In related news, Bangladesh’s win marked a positive start to their tour of UAE, with the team looking to build on their recent successes. As Cricbuzz reported, the team’s performance will be closely watched by fans and experts alike, as they look to make a strong impression in the series.
