Sam Thompson Tears Up as Pal Pete Wicks Surprises Him with Emotional Challenge
Sam Thompson, the reality TV star, broke down in tears as his friend Pete Wicks surprised him during his 260-mile endurance challenge for UNICEF. The challenge, which began on Monday, involves Sam cycling and running to deliver the match ball to its new home in Old Trafford.
According to the Daily Mail, Sam, 34, has been taking part in a Soccer Aid Challenge, and on Wednesday, Pete, 37, surprised him with a sign that read "You can do it… YOU CAAAN!" The phrase is a reference to a famous scene from the reality TV show "Made in Chelsea," where Sam’s ex-girlfriend Zara McDermott begged for him back after cheating on him.
The Daily Mail reports that Sam was overwhelmed with emotion as he saw Pete, a friend and fellow reality TV star, during the challenge. Sam has been cycling and running for three days, covering a significant distance despite struggling with a calf injury.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sam said, "Seeing Pete half way made my day. The pain is so intense but this has put a smile on my face." He added, "Please donate if you can, I’m so grateful for all the support."
Pete had shared a tribute to Sam on Instagram before the challenge began, saying, "Tomorrow this man embarks on a mental and physical challenge for an amazing cause @Unicef." He also expressed his pride in Sam, saying, "Mate I couldn’t be prouder of you as a friend, a brother and as a man."
The Daily Mail reports that Sam is expected to complete the challenge by June 6, just in time for the kickoff on Sunday, June 15. Despite struggling with his injury, Sam remains determined to finish the challenge, saying, "This is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I now have to accept that I’ve done damage to my calf and running is very difficult."
