Dept. Q Season 2: What to Expect from the Next Instalment
Fans of the hit Netflix series Dept. Q are eagerly awaiting the greenlight for a second season, and according to sources, the next instalment will likely draw inspiration from Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen’s series of 10 novels. The nine-episode series, which debuted on the platform on May 29, tells the story of Detective Morck being assigned to lead a newly-assembled cold case unit after suffering a gunshot wound in a brutal attack.
As reported by ELLE, the first season of Dept. Q was adapted from the first book in Adler-Olsen’s series, Mercy, which focuses on the disappearance of prosecutor Merritt Lingard four years before the series’ start. According to ELLE, a potential second season will likely draw inspiration from Adler-Olsen’s second book, Disgrace, which was originally published in 2008 and tells the story of Detective Morck and his team receiving a case involving the brutal murder of a brother and sister in their family’s summer home in the late 1980s.
In Disgrace, Detective Morck and his team discover that the case was long-assumed to be solved, but the mystery still finds its way to Detective Morck’s desk. As the dormant case is re-examined, one of the clear suspects emerges with additional information pertaining to the case: that one of the girls from the group of friends, Kimmie Lassen, seemingly vanished from society to evade potential police scrutiny and others who may wish to silence her. As reported by ELLE, Kimmie’s self-exile from society was, in fact, a result of the murder of the siblings, which scarred her.
ELLE also reports that Detective Morck’s relationship with his therapist, Dr. Rachel Irving, may be set to blossom into something more in the next season. Throughout the first season of Dept. Q, police therapist Dr. Rachel Irving was tasked with helping Detective Morck better handle his PTSD following the terrifying shooting that left him injured and his peer James Hardy paralysed. By the end of the nine episodes, Detective Morck has finally learned how to open up to Dr. Irving, and it appears that they’ve developed a healthy relationship.
Furthermore, fans of the show may be eager to learn more about Salim’s story, whose book counterpart, Hafez El-Assad, is framed as a character with a history shrouded in mystery. As reported by ELLE, throughout the novel series, Salim’s skills and capabilities cast further suspicion on his past and what drove him to become a refugee in the first place.
According to ELLE, the second book, Disgrace, and potentially the second season of Dept. Q, will see Detective Morck and his team re-examining the case of the murdered siblings, and Hafez’s past will likely be a major plot point. With the first season of Dept. Q drawing to a close, fans will be eagerly awaiting the next instalment to see how the story unfolds.
