Sir David Suchet Feels ‘Extraordinarily Emotional’ About New Agatha Christie Series
Sir David Suchet, the renowned actor famous for his portrayal of Hercule Poirot in the classic ITV detective drama Poirot, has confessed to feeling “extraordinarily emotional” after appearing in a new Agatha Christie series. The 79-year-old actor appeared on ITV’s This Morning to discuss his new show, Travels with Agatha Christie and Sir David Suchet, which follows in the footsteps of the legendary novelist Agatha Christie.
According to Wales Online, during his appearance on This Morning, Sir David admitted that his journey through time was one that provoked an impassioned response as he held onto Agatha’s diary entries of her experience. The docuseries will follow David as he goes on a compelling adventure of a lifetime, retracing the remarkable path that Agatha Christie herself took early in her life.
The Wales Online report stated that Sir David travelled to Victoria Falls, which he confessed was one of the highlights of his experience. He said, “The big thing for me in South Africa, which was extraordinarily emotional, was to witness Victoria Falls. You know, I’ve been around quite a while and I’ve seen some amazing things, but to stand and feel the vibration of the ground, because the actual water doesn’t fall into a river. The water of Victoria Falls falls onto a rock, so you really feel the force, and to see it, you feel about that size.”
As reported by Wales Online, This Morning presenter Ben Shephard noted that David got very emotional throughout his trip, to which David replied, “Well, it was a very emotional trip!” The programme was first revealed nearly a year ago, when it was confirmed that former Poirot actor David would be retracing the remarkable path that Agatha Christie herself took early in her life.
David aims to explore and connect more deeply with the iconic author whose stories he knows inside out, having portrayed her legendary Belgian detective for over twenty years. As Wales Online reported, viewers can follow his journey in Travels with Agatha Christie & Sir David Suchet, airing on More4 at 9pm on Wednesday, 21st May 2025.
Speaking about the show previously, when it was first announced, Wales Online quoted David as saying in a statement: “I feel that [Christie] will be sitting on my shoulders at every moment, urging me on to share her passion for knowledge, travel, archeology and, of course, mystery.” He added, “She was vivacious. On board the ship, she openly writes in her diary that she was kept up into the early hours with one of the officers on board. The Agatha Christie that I was discovering during my journey was happy. She was a little bit flirty.”
