Quinn Ewers’ Agent Slams NFL Over QB’s Shocking Draft Plummet

Ex-Texas Star’s Agent Slams NFL Over Quarterback’s Draft Slide

In a recent interview with ESPN, the agent of former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers, Ron Slavin, expressed his disappointment and frustration with the NFL’s draft process, which saw his client slide from a mid-draft projection to being selected in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins.

According to Fox News, Ewers, who was one of the top quarterbacks in high school, initially committed to Ohio State before transferring to Texas for the 2022 season. In 2024, he had an impressive season with 3,472 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes, leading the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff, where they were eventually eliminated by Ohio State in the semifinals.

As reported by Fox News, Slavin revealed that he had spoken with two teams before the seventh round started – the Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys – and that Miami finally took Ewers. Slavin told ESPN that he had reached out to about "half the league" to see why his client fell from a fourth-round projection to round seven.

"They thought he was a third- or fourth-round pick, but too big of a name to be a clipboard holder," Slavin said, as quoted by Fox News. "Which I think is chickenshit."

Ewers himself has taken the draft slide as motivation, saying, "It’s definitely a lot of motivation that comes with it, especially just being the last (quarterback) drafted," as reported by Fox News. "I still have high expectations for myself, but just from the outside looking in, this is the first time in my life to not have that much expectation. There’s definitely motivation and fuel. A lot of it."

The NFL draft process can be unpredictable, and Fox News notes that Ewers will likely have to compete with Zach Wilson for the backup quarterback job with the Dolphins.

According to Fox News, Ewers’ agent, Ron Slavin, had high hopes for his client’s draft prospects, thinking he could have landed with the Las Vegas Raiders or Seattle Seahawks on Day 2 of the draft. However, the so-called "nightmare" scenario occurred when the Raiders passed on the quarterback for two FCS players, a division lower than the top in college football.

As Fox News reports, Ewers’ draft slide has been a significant talking point in the sports world, with many analysts and fans expressing surprise at his fall. Despite this, Ewers remains determined to make an impact in the NFL and prove his doubters wrong.
