Quinn Ewers’ Draft Process: Before the Fall, and What’s Next

NFL Draft: Quinn Ewers’ Journey to the Miami Dolphins
=====================================================

Quinn Ewers, the former Texas quarterback, was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the NFL draft with the 231st overall pick. Ewers’ journey to the NFL was marked by high expectations, injuries, and a long wait to hear his name called.

### Early Preparation

Ewers began his draft preparation in late January, working with Chad Marr at MARR STRENGTH in Southlake, Texas. Marr helped Ewers add weight to his frame and develop functional strength through a series of exercises. According to Marr, Ewers weighed in at 200 pounds when he first arrived, but by the combine, he had added 14 pounds, 11 of which was muscle. As Marr noted, “Communication is a big thing when guys come out [of college]. You need to give them a sense of direction.”

### On-Field Combine Prep

In mid-February, Ewers spent time throwing passes at Southlake Carroll’s indoor facility with quarterbacks coach Jeff Christensen. He worked out with former NFL players, including Terrance Williams and Dante Miller. Christensen praised Ewers’ natural ability, saying, “It’s just natural to him.” Ewers felt confident heading into the combine, stating, “What I did at Texas is very important. I have a lot of experience on the football field, which is something you can’t really coach.”

### Combine Week

At the NFL combine in Indianapolis, Ewers impressed scouts with his accuracy and arm strength. He threw 18 of 23 passes on target and displayed his athleticism during the medical examinations and interviews. One scout noted, “He was immature. Didn’t really know the offense his freshman year [at Ohio State]. I don’t think he was real endearing a couple years ago. But he lost weight, got in shape, got on a diet, cut his hair, showed he can be a leader.”

### Pro Day

Ewers’ pro day at Texas was well-received by scouts, who praised his accuracy and leadership. He completed 50 of 59 passes, with only three incompletions due to dropped passes. One AFC personnel chief noted, “He had more power on his intermediate throws than I thought he would. The deep balls fluttered a little bit, but he can make all the throws.”

### Predraft Visits

Ewers made visits to several teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts. He also met with the Cowboys, his childhood favorite team, but ultimately was not selected by them. According to Ewers, “Being from Southlake, right down the road, getting to talk to all these guys on staff, the coaches, the head coach, Mr. Jones, it was really unbelievable.”

### The Draft

On draft day, Ewers waited anxiously with his family and friends at a party barn in Chico, Texas. He was not selected until the seventh round, when the Dolphins picked him with the 231st overall pick. Ewers’ agent, Ron Slavin, noted that teams were concerned about his durability and size. However, Ewers remained optimistic, stating, “Maybe not as excited, but it’s the same opportunity that every guy that was drafted in front of me is getting.”

### Conclusion

Ewers now joins the Dolphins and will participate in their rookie minicamp. Despite being the last quarterback drafted, Ewers is motivated to prove himself. As he noted, “It’s definitely a lot of motivation that comes with it, especially just being the last [quarterback] drafted. I still have the high expectations for myself, but just from the outside looking in, this is the first time in my life to not have that much expectation. There’s definitely motivation and fuel. A lot of it.” With his journey to the NFL complete, Ewers is ready to take on the challenges of the league and prove himself as a valuable quarterback.

Quinn Ewers’ story is a testament to the hard work and dedication required to succeed in the NFL. From his early preparation to his journey through the draft process, Ewers demonstrated his commitment to becoming a professional quarterback. As reported by ESPN, Ewers’ selection by the Dolphins marks the beginning of a new chapter in his football career.
