Radio 2 Star Makes Shocking Exit: Colleague’s Sudden Move Revealed

BBC Radio Star Adam Porter Embarks on New Journey with Canal-Based Podcast

After 24 years of broadcasting with the BBC, former radio star Adam Porter has announced his new career move with the launch of a canal-based podcast, The Water Road. The legendary news reader departed from the broadcaster on March 28 and has since started a new life afloat with his husband, Adrian, on their narrowboat.

According to an article in the Express, Adam Porter revealed his new venture, which sees him sharing his passion for canals and rivers with listeners. As reported by the Express, during his time with the BBC, Porter became a fan favourite reading the news on Radio 2, 6Music, and 5live, as well as appearing on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. His love of waterways was often referred to on air, with late colleague Steve Wright dubbing him "Captain" due to his canal boat.

In a significant lifestyle shift, Porter and his husband, Adrian, made the decision to leave their house and move onto their narrowboat in an attempt to travel as much of the network as possible. The Express reported that Adam felt a podcast was the perfect way to share his enthusiasm for canals and rivers, stating: "There are dozens of canal YouTubers but I’ve always been a radio man, so audio was always going to be my thing. There are so many sounds that exemplify the waterways, from the clicking of winding lock paddles to boat engines and birdsong."

Two episodes of The Water Road are already available, with the fortnightly show set to release another two episodes in May. As quoted in the Express, Adam said the episodes will highlight features of the waterways, canalside attractions, and interviews with people involved. The former news presenter took voluntary redundancy from the BBC in advance of his departure, announcing his decision to leave at the beginning of March this year.

Taking to Instagram, Porter wrote: "After 24 years at the BBC, I have decided to take voluntary redundancy and will be leaving towards the end of March. I’ve loved working in the Radio Newsroom and being on Radio 2 and 6Music. I’ve worked with fantastic colleagues both in the newsroom and on air, and I’ve been there for some really big stories. But now is the time to move on to new waters. Stay tuned for plenty of boating content!" as reported by the Express.

The Water Road is available on various platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and smaller podcast platforms. As Adam Porter begins this new chapter in his career, fans can look forward to hearing more about his adventures on the waterways. The Express has confirmed that Adam Porter’s new podcast, The Water Road, is a unique and exciting venture that showcases his passion for canals and rivers.
