Paris Marathon 2025: Traffic and Parking Restrictions Announced
The 48th edition of the Paris International Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, and the Préfecture de police has published an order temporarily modifying traffic and parking conditions in several areas of the capital. According to a report by Sortira à Paris, the restrictions aim to ensure the smooth running of the event and the safety of participants.
The Paris Marathon, one of the most popular and prestigious marathons in the world, will see thousands of runners take to the streets of Paris, passing through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Champs-Élysées, the Bastille, and the Eiffel Tower. The 42.195-kilometre race will start at the top of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and finish at the Avenue Foch.
In preparation for the event, the Préfecture de police has imposed various traffic and parking restrictions across several arrondissements in Paris, as well as in surrounding towns, including Charenton-le-Pont, Boulogne-Billancourt, and Saint-Mandé. The restrictions will be in place from April 4 to 13, 2025.
Traffic Restrictions
The order issued by the Préfecture de police prohibits all vehicular traffic on certain roads and at specific times. For example, on April 12, 2025, from 3:00 am to 11:30 pm, all vehicular traffic will be prohibited on avenue Foch, between avenue Malakoff and place du Paraguay, and between rue de Presbourg and avenue Malakoff, in the 16th district of Paris.
On April 13, 2025, from 00:01 am to 3:00 pm, all vehicle traffic will be prohibited on avenue des Champs Elysées, between place Charles de Gaulle and rond-point des Champs Elysées Marcel Dassault, in the 8th arrondissement. Additionally, from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm, all vehicular traffic will be prohibited on several roads along the race route, including the Champs-Élysées, rue de Rivoli, and place de la Concorde.
Parking Restrictions
The order also prohibits parking for all vehicles in certain streets and areas. For example, from April 11, 2025, at 6:00 pm to April 13, 2025, at 6:00 pm, parking will be prohibited in several streets in the 12th and 16th arrondissements, including rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, avenue Daumesnil, and rue de Charenton.
Road Closures and Diversions
Several roads will be closed to traffic and parking during the event, including the Garigliano bridge, which will be closed from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm on April 13, 2025. The exit ramps of the boulevard périphériques will also be closed at specific times.
Recommendations for Motorists
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and to check the traffic restrictions before heading out. It is also recommended to use public transportation or park in designated parking areas.
