Sabrina Carpenter Drops ‘Manchild,’ A Frontrunner For Song Of The Summer

Sabrina Carpenter Unleashes Sassy New Single ‘Manchild’ Ahead of Music Video Release

In a move that has already generated significant buzz among music fans, Sabrina Carpenter has released the audio version of her new single, ‘Manchild’, on Thursday evening. The upbeat track, which is expected to be a contender in the Song of the Summer race, has been well-received by fans, with many taking to social media to express their enthusiasm for the song.

According to a report by Variety, Carpenter collaborated with Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen on the song, which she described as "the song embodiment of a loving eye roll" and "a never-ending road trip in the summer". In an Instagram post, Carpenter revealed that she wrote ‘Manchild’ on a random Tuesday with Antonoff and Allen, calling it "the best random Tuesday of my life".

The song’s lyrics are characteristic of Carpenter’s style, with the singer comically laying into a man who can’t seem to get his act together. "Manchild, why you always come a-runnin’ to me?" she sings. "Fuck my life, won’t you let an innocent woman be? / Never heard of self-care / Half your brain just ain’t there…" As Variety notes, Carpenter takes some credit for her own poor choices, singing "Oh, I like my boys playin’ hard to get / And I like my men all incompetent".

The music video for ‘Manchild’ is set to be released on Friday morning, but fans already have a good idea of what to expect, thanks to a teaser video and the single’s digital cover art. Both show Carpenter hitchhiking in the southwestern desert in high heels and short-shorts. According to Variety, the video will be released at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT.

As Variety reports, ‘Manchild’ is widely assumed to be the first single from Carpenter’s seventh album, although no official confirmation has been made. The singer’s Instagram comments suggest that she simply wanted to release the song for summer, which may be a deflection against expectations that a full-length project is imminent. The deluxe version of her last album is still a weekly staple of the Billboard 200 chart.

Carpenter is set to give ‘Manchild’ its live debut during her festival appearance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on Friday, following in the footsteps of her mega hit ‘Espresso’ for Coachella last year. With its catchy melody and sassy lyrics, ‘Manchild’ is sure to be a summer hit – and fans will be eagerly anticipating the release of the music video on Friday.

The release of ‘Manchild’ marks another exciting chapter in Carpenter’s music career, which has been gaining momentum in recent years. As Variety notes, Carpenter has been building a reputation as a talented singer-songwriter with a knack for crafting catchy, empowering anthems. With ‘Manchild’, she seems to be continuing in that vein – and fans will be eagerly awaiting her next move.
