Leroy Sane Set to Join Galatasaray After Bayern Munich Contract Breakdown
In a shocking turn of events, German international Leroy Sane has decided to leave Bayern Munich to pursue a new challenge at Galatasaray, according to reports from Transfermarkt. The 29-year-old winger had been in talks with the Bundesliga champions over a new contract all season, but no agreement was reached, and he will leave on a free transfer this summer.
Sane joined Bayern in 2020 from Manchester City for €49m and has since won four Bundesliga titles across his five years in Germany. During his time at the Bavarian club, he has scored 61 goals and provided 55 assists in 220 appearances. However, it seems that the club’s offer of a three-year contract extension on reduced terms was not enough to convince Sane to stay. According to Transfermarkt, Bayern offered Sane a three-year contract extension, but he rejected the proposal.

As reported by Transfermarkt, Sane will sign a three-year contract with Galatasaray until 2028, with a reported annual salary of around €15 million net. This will make him the most valuable player in the Super Lig, with a market value of €32m. Victor Osimhen, who is set to return to Napoli from his loan spell, is currently valued at €70m.
Thomas Deterding, Transfermarkt‘s Bundesliga expert, shed light on Sane’s exit from Bayern Munich. "Shortly before the end of the season, everything seemed to point to an imminent agreement between Sane and Bayern. But to everyone’s surprise, the attacker then announced a change of his agents from 11Wins to Pina Zahavi, and the previously negotiated terms of a new three-year contract became obsolete," he said.
Deterding continued, "The Bayern executives, including sporting director Max Eberl, had publicly confirmed several times that they were not willing to extend their offer any further. Thus, the contract offer was not increased during the new negotiations, but only the salary was marginally adjusted. Sane was reportedly set to receive €12 million in fixed fees plus €3.5 million in bonuses, apparently too little for the German international to sign." It seems that Galatasaray’s offer of €10 million net per year was more to Sane’s liking, and he has opted to join the Turkish club.
Sane had reportedly received offers from the Saudi Pro League and Arsenal, but Galatasaray have won the race for his signature. The club’s ambitious project and attractive salary package seem to have been the deciding factors in Sane’s decision to join.
