Summer of Changes and Cancellations for Trains in Sardinia: Trenitalia Announces Disruptions
A significant overhaul of train services in Sardinia has been announced by Trenitalia, affecting passengers travelling on the Cagliari-Olbia and Cagliari-Sassari routes throughout the summer months. From June 15 to September 14, changes and cancellations will be in place, with replacement buses potentially delayed due to traffic conditions.
According to Trenitalia, as reported by Unione Sarda, the disruptions are necessary to carry out extraordinary maintenance work on the rail network. Passengers are advised that available seats on buses may be fewer than the normal service offered, and bike transport will not be permitted. Additionally, large animals will not be allowed on buses, except for guide dogs for the blind.
The first phase of the disruptions will take place from Sunday, June 15, to Tuesday, June 24, with interventions scheduled between the stations of Oristano and Ozieri-Chilivani. During this period, regional trains may be subject to changes and cancellations between Oristano and Sassari and between Oristano and Olbia. To mitigate the inconvenience, Trenitalia has planned bus routes between Oristano and Sassari/Porto Torres Marittima and vice versa, and between Oristano and Olbia Terranova and vice versa. These buses will offer both direct connections and services with all intermediate stops.
From June 25 to September 14, the line will be interrupted between the stations of Oristano and Macomer. To limit the disruption, Trenitalia has planned bus runs between Oristano and Macomer, coinciding with the Cagliari-Oristano train and the Macomer-Sassari/Olbia train. Passengers are advised to check the revised schedules carefully to plan their journeys.
Furthermore, due to road traffic conditions, some connections between Sassari and Olbia have been rescheduled with buses to avoid lengthy waits at Ozieri Chilivani. On the Sassari–Cagliari and Olbia–Cagliari connections, where a transfer at Ozieri-Chilivani is currently required, a bus connection has been planned from/to Oristano to Sassari/Porto Torres M.ma/Olbia with intermediate stops and a bus connection from/to Oristano to Sassari/Porto Torres M.ma/Olbia without stops.
As Unione Sarda reports, Trenitalia is working to minimise disruptions and ensure that passengers can continue to travel conveniently throughout the summer.
