Sels Shines, Rice Impresses, Salah Scores: Premier League Team of the Season

Premier League Team of the Season Revealed

The 2024-2025 Premier League campaign has been a memorable one, with numerous individual performances standing out. According to a report by the PA news agency, as published in the Irish News, 11 players have impressed over the season, earning them a spot in the Premier League Team of the Season.

One of the standout performers has been Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels. The Belgian keeper has produced a string of consistent displays as Nottingham Forest pushed towards European qualification and also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup. The 33-year-old, who had a spell at Newcastle earlier in his career, has 13 clean sheets to put himself in the running for the Premier League’s Golden Glove award.

The Irish News reported that Sels has been a consistent performer this season, with his impressive displays helping Forest to a respectable finish in the Premier League. As noted by the PA news agency, Sels’ experience and skill have been invaluable to Forest, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

Another player who has caught the eye this season is Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. The 21-year-old Hungary international, signed from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in July 2023, is rumoured to be on the summer watchlist of several clubs – including Liverpool and Manchester City. Kerkez has impressed with his pace and skill on the wing, providing a solid defensive presence and attacking threat for Bournemouth.

The Irish News, citing the PA news agency, reported that Kerkez has been a key player for Bournemouth this season, with his performances helping the Cherries to a respectable finish in the Premier League. According to the report, Kerkez’ impressive displays have attracted the attention of several top clubs, and he is likely to be a sought-after talent in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has also been a colossus at the heart of the Reds defence, driving Arne Slot’s men on to the Premier League title – a record-equalling 20th English championship for the Anfield club. The 33-year-old Netherlands defender, who ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract in April, was just as cool on the ball as he was strong at winning it back – leading the league’s passing statistics with more than 2,800 completed through 36 games.

As reported by the Irish News, Van Dijk has been a dominant force in the Premier League this season, with his leadership and defensive skills helping Liverpool to secure the title. The PA news agency noted that Van Dijk’s performances have been outstanding, and he has been a key player in Liverpool’s success.

Brazilian defender Gabriel may have seen his season cut short by a hamstring injury in April which required surgery, but nevertheless he was one of the standout defenders for the majority of the campaign. With Gabriel in the side, Arsenal returned 10 clean sheets, winning 16 league games and losing just three. The centre-back was also a threat from set pieces, scoring three headers.

The Irish News reported that Gabriel has been an important player for Arsenal this season, with his defensive skills and goalscoring threat helping the Gunners to a respectable finish in the Premier League. According to the PA news agency, Gabriel’s performances have been impressive, and he has been a key player in Arsenal’s defence.

The PA news agency also highlighted the impressive performances of Crystal Palace wing-back Daniel Munoz, who has been an integral part of the swift transition from defence to attack by Oliver Glasner’s slick side. Munoz helped deliver Palace’s goal in the FA Cup final for Eberechi Eze – and but for a tight offside VAR call, the Colombian would have also got on the scoresheet in the second half at Wembley.

Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy has enjoyed a standout campaign, providing 12 Premier League assists – second only to Mohamed Salah – and scoring eight goals. Having helped the Toon Army end their long wait for silverware with a memorable victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and also pushing Eddie Howe’s men on towards a top-four finish, the 30-year-old could well have put himself in England contention this summer.

The Irish News reported that Murphy has been a key player for Newcastle this season, with his pace and skill on the wing helping the Magpies to secure a top-four finish. According to the PA news agency, Murphy’s performances have been outstanding, and he has been a key player in Newcastle’s success.

Manchester United may have endured a forgettable domestic campaign, but Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes dug in to drag the team on into the Europa League final. Leading by example in an underperforming Premier League team bereft of ideas, the Red Devils captain has made nine assists and scored eight times – with three coolly dispatched from the penalty spot.

As noted by the Irish News, Fernandes has been a standout performer for Manchester United this season, with his creativity and goalscoring threat helping the Red Devils to secure a Europa League spot. The PA news agency reported that Fernandes’ performances have been impressive, and he has been a key player in Manchester United’s success.

England international Declan Rice has been a consistent performer at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, cracking in another fine Premier League goal in the Gunners’ last home game which secured a return to Europe’s elite again. As reported by the Irish News, Rice has been a key player for Arsenal this season, with his defensive skills and goalscoring threat helping the Gunners to a respectable finish in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah made himself the leading contender for individual awards after a stellar campaign with 28 Premier League goals and 18 assists – topping the rankings for both. The 32-year-old Egypt forward will be determined to better those impressive returns again next season – and also push Slot’s men on in the quest for more European success.

The Irish News reported that Salah has been a standout performer for Liverpool this season, with his goalscoring and creative skills helping the Reds to secure the Premier League title. According to the PA news agency, Salah’s performances have been outstanding, and he has been a key player in Liverpool’s success.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood have also been recognised for their impressive performances this season. Isak has fired in 23 league goals so far – and also scored in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley. Wood has proved a handful for Premier League defenders this season, plundering 20 goals to date.

The Irish News, citing the PA news agency, reported that Isak and Wood have been key players for Newcastle and Forest respectively, with their goalscoring skills helping their teams to respectable finishes in the Premier League. According to the report, both players have been impressive this season, and their performances have not gone unnoticed.
