Shane Richie Teases Huge New Alfie Moon Storyline in EastEnders
EastEnders star Shane Richie has spilled details about an upcoming storyline for his character Alfie Moon, which is set to send shockwaves through the popular BBC soap. According to Digital Spy, Richie revealed that the new plot will feature “fireworks” for Alfie and his on-screen partner Kat Slater.
Richie, who has played Alfie in EastEnders since 2002, recently sat down with The Mirror at The British Soap Awards 2025 to discuss the upcoming story. The actor confirmed that the new plot is a long-term one, which will continue to unfold until Christmas. “There’s fireworks, there’s Kat and Alfie,” Richie teased. “There is a story that is about to kick in, which will carry on through to after Christmas. Honestly it’s a big story. If you thought the 40th was big wait until you see this story.”
While Richie remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the plot, he did reveal that he had spoken with new producer Ben Wadey about the story. “He has told me some things,” Richie said. “I said, ‘Let me sit down.'” The actor’s comments have sparked speculation among fans, who are eager to learn more about the upcoming storyline.
The new plot is expected to centre around Alfie and Kat, who have been a central couple in EastEnders for many years. It is unclear how the story will connect to other plotlines in the show, including the reported return of Zoe Slater, Kat’s daughter, played by Michelle Ryan.
In a separate interview, Richie also reflected on Alfie’s son Spencer, who was played by Christopher Parker. Richie revealed that he would “like him to come back” to the show, but acknowledged that there are currently many storylines in play. “Alfie could probably do without that,” he said.
