Motor Neurone Disease Community to Benefit from Kevin Sinfield’s Latest Challenge
Renowned rugby star Kevin Sinfield CBE is set to embark on his seventh annual challenge to raise money and awareness for those affected by motor neurone disease (MND). The Rhinos reports that Sinfield and his team will hit the streets of the UK and Republic of Ireland in December to complete seven ultra-marathons in seven days across seven cities or regions.
According to the Rhinos, Sinfield’s challenge, dubbed “7 in 7: Together“, aims to bring the MND community together while raising vital funds for six MND charities. The challenge will start on December 1, 2025, and will see Sinfield and his team visit new locations that may be overlooked by major events, ensuring that the MND community in each region knows they are not forgotten. As reported by the Rhinos, Sinfield said, “We have committed to doing seven annual challenges, as most people know the number seven is special to us because it is the number Rob wore. There are so many special memories from the previous challenges when people are so grateful that we have come to their village, town or city. With this penultimate challenge we wanted to continue that theme.”
The Rhinos reports that Sinfield and his team will begin their journey in East Anglia, running from Bury St Edmunds to Ipswich in tribute to former Ipswich Town striker Marcus Stewart, who is living with MND. On December 2, the team will return to the Republic of Ireland, where they will run in Cork and remember former Warrington Rugby League player and Munster Rugby Union coach Paul Darbyshire, who died in 2011 from MND. The Irish MND Association will also benefit from the challenge. As stated in the Rhinos, the day will also see the team pay tribute to legendary Irish broadcaster Charlie Bird, who passed away in March 2024 after his battle with MND.
The challenge will then move to Wales on December 3, with a circuit of Swansea, before heading back to England on December 4 to South Yorkshire, where Sinfield and his team will complete an ultra-marathon around the hills of Sheffield. The day will finish at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), where groundbreaking research is being conducted to find a treatment and ultimately a cure for MND. The Rhinos notes that the research is part-funded by previous challenges.
On December 5, Sinfield and the team will move to Cumbria, running from Workington to Whitehaven in a region that is passionate about Rugby League. The penultimate day will see the challenge move to Scotland, with a run starting at the legendary golf course Carnoustie before travelling into Dundee. As reported by the Rhinos, the challenge will be completed on December 7, with Sinfield and his team returning to Leeds for the first time since 2023 and the passing of Rob Burrow last year.
The Rhinos reports that six MND charities will benefit from the challenge, including the MND Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity’s support for the Rob Burrow Centre, Irish MND Association, Darby Rimmer Foundation, My Name’s Doddie Foundation, and MND Scotland.
