Sir Chris Hoy Finds Solace in North Wales Mountains Amid Terminal Cancer Diagnosis
Six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has spoken about how his regular trips to the mountains of North Wales have become a source of comfort and joy as he battles terminal cancer. According to a report by Wales Online, Hoy has been spending his time mountain biking with friends at One Planet Adventure in Llandegla, Denbighshire, and has described these trips as "one of the things [he] looks forward to most".
In an Instagram post, Hoy shared a video of himself and fellow Olympic champion Ed Clancy flying down one of the trails, and wrote: "Another utterly brilliant day with great friends out on the bikes! These trips to @oneplanetadventure in Llandegla have become one of the things I look forward to most every couple of weeks, catching up with the lads, telling old stories, laughing like idiots, forgetting worries and coming home exhausted but happy at the end of the day." Wales Online reported that Hoy was joined by a large group of friends, including BBC Morning Live presenters Gethin Jones and OJ Borg, and former Olympic cyclists Philip Hindes and Rob Hayles.

Hoy was first diagnosed with cancer in September 2023, but publicly revealed last year that his condition was terminal. A scan found primary cancer in his prostate which had metastasised to his bones, including his shoulder, pelvis, ribs, and spine, with doctors giving him between two and four years left to live. Despite the frightening prognosis, Hoy has thrown himself into new challenges and doing things he has always dreamed of doing, including driving around the iconic Nurburgring in Germany.
Taking to the racetrack in a Porsche alongside former Top Gear host Chris Harris, the 49-year-old wrote: "Well that was fun!.. First time driving on the Nordschleife @nuerburgring. I don’t really know why it’s taken me this long to venture there but it lived up to all the hype and then some. What. A. Place. Couldn’t have hoped for a better experience."
