BBC News has learned that the upcoming season of the popular television show “Pilgrimage” will feature seven new celebrities embarking on a spiritual journey along a medieval Catholic route. According to an interview with the BBC, former soldier and reality TV star, Mr Clark, who participated in a previous season of the show, has spoken about his experience on the programme.
During his time on the show, Mr Clark, who was in the army for nearly seven years, found the physical demands of the journey to be manageable. “I was in the army for nearly seven years, so the walking and hiking even though it was a lot, it was fine,” he told the BBC. “We walked 15-20 kilometers a day, up the Alps which was stunning, you didn’t have the chance to moan because the views were beautiful.”
The show, which will return to BBC Two on Easter Sunday, follows a group of celebrities as they travel along a medieval Catholic route, facing strenuous climbs and challenges along the way. The participants, including agnostic singer Jay McGuiness from The Wanted and journalist Nelufar Hedayat who refers to herself as a modern Muslim, will travel from outside Austria to the Einsiedeln Abbey near Lake Zurich in Switzerland over 12 days.
Mr Clark revealed that there was a moment during filming when he asked the cameras to “leave him alone”. He explained that he struggled with seeing other people so lost in their faith, but for someone like him, he felt at home on this pilgrimage. “I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be on this journey,” he said to the BBC.
