Everton and Southampton Face Frustration in Bid to Sign Manor Solomon
Everton and Southampton are facing an uphill battle to sign Manor Solomon, the Israeli winger currently on loan at Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur. According to sources from GIVEMESPORT, Solomon’s preference is to join Leeds permanently, rather than moving to Goodison Park or St Mary’s.
The Toffees and Saints are among the sides monitoring Solomon’s situation, but they will find it difficult to persuade him to embark on a fresh challenge unless Leeds opt against meeting Tottenham’s demands. Everton boss David Moyes is scouring the market for reinforcements, despite having a £12.9million obligation to buy Carlos Alcaraz if he makes a pre-determined number of appearances during his loan spell from Flamengo.
Solomon has had a successful spell at Leeds, playing a key role in the team’s promotion to the Premier League. The Whites have forked out £45,000-per-week to cover the majority of his salary, and they are aiming to end Everton and Southampton’s lingering hopes of being able to pounce by opening fresh discussions with Spurs. As GIVEMESPORT sources have learned, Leeds are in pole position to retain Solomon’s services, and the 25-year-old has a strong belief that he can continue thriving in West Yorkshire.
The Israel international has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham, despite being described as ‘unplayable’ by Neil Redfearn. This has resulted in Spurs being prepared to sanction his permanent departure as long as their demands are met. GIVEMESPORT sources have been told that Everton and Southampton will be able to agree terms with Tottenham if they put an offer in the region of £15million on the table during the summer transfer window.
However, it would still come down to convincing Solomon that he should move into new surroundings instead of extending his time at Leeds. The 25-year-old former Shakhtar Donetsk talisman has been impressive in the Championship, and his form has resulted in a number of clubs across Europe keeping tabs on his situation ahead of potentially attempting to pounce in the coming months.
Everton are not the only side showing interest in Solomon, with GIVEMESPORT sources understanding that a number of clubs are keen on signing him. The Toffees are also interested in signing Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, with David Moyes keen to work with the young forward. Moyes is also aiming to seal a reunion with Tomas Soucek, having managed the central midfielder during his time in charge of West Ham United.
As Everton prepare to leave Goodison Park for their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, Moyes will be looking to strengthen his squad with quality signings. However, with Solomon’s preference being to join Leeds permanently, it remains to be seen whether the Toffees will be able to persuade him to make the move to Goodison Park.
