Still to Take Helm at Saints Before Arsenal Showdown

Southampton Close In On Appointment Of Will Still As Head Coach
Southampton are accelerating plans to appoint Will Still as their head coach, according to reports. The 32-year-old, who left French side Lens last week citing personal reasons and a desire to be closer to family in England, could be in the stands when Southampton host Arsenal on Sunday.

The Guardian understands that Southampton’s technical director, Johannes Spors, has been leading the search for Ivan Juric’s successor, with the first-team coach and former Under-21s coach Simon Rusk leading the team on an interim basis. Still, born in Belgium to English parents, has taken his steps into coaching at Preston’s academy, during an internship from a college course, but has spent all of his professional career in Belgium and France, also working at Sint-Truiden, Beerschot, Lierse and Reims.

As reported by The Guardian, Southampton have been holding talks with Still and Tom Cleverley in their hunt for a new manager. Still is viewed as a potentially exciting appointment and a highly promising coach. However, compensation with Lens for his staff remains to be agreed.

Southampton’s interest in Still comes as they prepare to host Arsenal in their final game of a miserable season. The Saints have avoided the ignominy of failing to beat Derby’s record-low Premier League points tally, but will be looking to rebuild ahead of the new campaign. The appointment of Still would be seen as a coup for the club, with the young coach having impressed in his time in France.

Among others on Southampton’s list has been the Sheffield Wednesday manager and former Saints assistant, Danny Röhl, whom Spors knows from their time at RB Leipzig, though the pair did not work together directly. Röhl has strong interest from Bundesliga clubs and is expected to leave Hillsborough after almost two years in the job. Southampton looked into appointing Röhl after sacking Russell Martin last December.

The potential appointment of Still has generated excitement among Southampton fans, who will be hoping that the young coach can bring a new level of success to the club. As The Guardian previously reported, Still has been on Southampton’s radar for some time, and the club are now moving quickly to secure his appointment.

In related news, The Guardian understands that Southampton’s owners are keen to bring in a young and dynamic coach who can help to rebuild the team and bring success back to St Mary’s. The appointment of Still would be seen as a major coup for the club, and would likely be viewed as a positive step by fans.

The news of Still’s potential appointment comes as Southampton prepare to face Arsenal in their final game of the season. The match will be a significant test for the team, who will be looking to finish the season on a high note. With the appointment of Still potentially imminent, fans will be eagerly anticipating the start of the new campaign.

According to The Guardian, compensation talks with Lens are ongoing, and Still’s future is expected to be resolved in the coming days. The Guardian understands that Southampton are optimistic about their chances of appointing Still, and that the young coach is excited about the prospect of joining the club.

With this appointment, Southampton are looking to turn a new page and start rebuilding their team. As reported by The Guardian, Johannes Spors has been leading the search for Ivan Juric’s successor. And with Still potentially set to join, fans will be eagerly anticipating the new campaign.

The Guardian understands that Still’s experience in Belgium and France has prepared him for this role, and that he is viewed as a highly promising coach. For more information, see The Guardian’s previous reporting on this story.
