The Betfred Super League’s Magic Weekend is set to return to St. James’ Park in Newcastle, bigger and better than ever in 2025. According to an exclusive report from Wigan Warriors, the event promises to be an exciting and action-packed weekend of rugby league, entertainment, and deals.
The event, which takes place on May 3-4, will feature a full round of fixtures, as well as a range of activities and entertainment options for fans to enjoy. As reported by Wigan Warriors, one of the highlights of the weekend will be the exclusive Partners’ Fan Zone, located on Strawberry Place. The Fan Zone will offer a unique pass-out system, allowing fans to explore and soak up the party atmosphere. The area will feature games, face painters, photo opportunities, and a range of food and beverage stalls, all delivered by official partners.
Fan Zone Activities
In the Fan Zone, fans will be treated to live music and entertainment, including a performance by David Woolridge. As stated on the Wigan Warriors website, "David Woolridge will keep the party going in the Fan Zone with music, special guests, live entertainment, and audience games with a Rugby League twist!" Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase exclusive Magic Weekend merchandise from the Oxen retail unit.
For the first time, supporters will also be able to visit St. James’ Park’s STACK, Newcastle’s answer to Box Park. The venue will offer a wide range of food and beverage options, as well as live music from local artists across the weekend.
St. James’ Park
The event will take place at St. James’ Park, which will be transformed into a vibrant and lively atmosphere. According to Wigan Warriors, the park will feature a range of entertainment options, including DJs and hosts. BBC Radio 1 Xtra DJ Nick Bright will be on the decks, playing everything from current bangers to old classics. Resident rugby league stadium announcer Pete Nuttall will also be on hand to deliver the action from the side, while bringing supporters into the game.
Big Screen Entertainment
The Super League will be using new technologies with Vixi Suite, allowing fans to get themselves up on the big screen. As reported by Wigan Warriors, "Across the weekend, Super League will be using new technologies with Vixi Suite so fans can get themselves up on the big screen. But watch out for our roaming cams looking to catch you out with some snapchat filters." Fans will also be able to send messages to loved ones, or wish them a happy birthday, by heading to the Rugby League Vixi Suite page or scanning the QR code around the stadium.
Fancy Dress Competitions
In celebration of Star Wars Day on Sunday, there will be a fancy dress competition, with the winner chosen by a fan vote. As stated on the Wigan Warriors website, "With the Sunday fixtures falling on Star Wars Day, it would be remiss of us not to introduce our first Fancy Dress Competition – the winner will be chosen by a fan vote." Fans are encouraged to come dressed in their best costumes for a chance to win tickets to the biggest Rugby League events in 2025.
Player of the Match
After each game, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the Betfred Player of the Match. According to Wigan Warriors, special guests from Community Integrated Care’s Learning Disability Super League will join the Sky Sports team for the Player of the Match presentation.

Beyond the Fan Zone, fans can explore Newcastle City Centre, which will offer a range of special offers and deals for Magic Weekend ticket holders. One of the participating venues is The Gate, located just a five-minute walk from St. James’ Park on Newgate Street.
