Super League Magic Weekend Returns: Newcastle Set for Live Rugby Showdown

Barrie McDermott’s Magic Weekend Preview: Super League Party Returns to Newcastle

The Super League’s Magic Weekend is set to return to Newcastle’s iconic St James’ Park, promising two days of full-throttle action, passion, and memories. According to Sky Sports, the event, which takes place on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, will bring together rugby league fans from across the country and beyond, creating a carnival atmosphere.

Newcastle lives and breathes rugby league, and the city will throw open its arms to fans from every corner of the country. Sky Sports reports that from the fan zone outside St James’ to the buzzing streets around the city, fans will flood in from every club, creating an electric atmosphere. Everywhere you look, you will see fans with scarves on, songs being sung, and flags flying.

The event is not just about the games; it’s about the people, the laughter, the drama, and the community. As Sky Sports notes, Magic Weekend isn’t just a fixture list; it’s an experience. With the Super League table looking like it could end up closer than ever, 2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Magic Weekends yet.

Barrie McDermott, a former Leeds player, has shared his top Magic Weekend moments with Sky Sports. His favorite moment ever is Leeds’ win over Bradford in Cardiff back in 2007. “This has to be my favourite moment ever at a Magic Weekend all the way back in 2007 at the inaugural showpiece event in Cardiff,” he said. “It was just brilliant because as an ex-Leeds player, to see Leeds beat Bradford in any circumstance is special.”

Other memorable moments for McDermott include Jacob Miller’s drop-goal in 2016, Tommy Makinson’s 2017 try for St Helens, Adrian Morley’s last-minute try, and David Hodgson’s late try for Hull KR vs Hull FC. As Sky Sports reports, McDermott also recalls the brawl between St Helens and Wigan in 2012, which saw three red cards dished out.

The line-up for this year’s Magic Weekend is impressive, with six blockbuster games taking place over two days. On Saturday, all matches will be shown exclusively live on Sky Sports Action. The schedule includes:

* Leigh Leopards vs Catalans Dragons (2:30 pm, KO 3 pm)
* Hull KR vs Salford Red Devils (5 pm, KO 5:15 pm)
* St Helens vs Leeds Rhinos (7:15 pm, KO 7:30 pm)

On Sunday, all matches will also be shown exclusively live on Sky Sports Action. The schedule includes:

* Huddersfield Giants vs Hull FC (12:30 pm, KO 1 pm)
* Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves (3 pm, KO 3:15 pm)
* Castleford Tigers vs Wakefield Trinity (5:15 pm, KO 5:30 pm)

Sky Sports will show every game of Super League live this season, including two matches in each round exclusively live, with the remaining four matches each week shown on Sky Sports+ via the red button.

As Sky Sports notes, the Magic Weekend is a celebration of the rugby league community, with fans from all clubs coming together to create an unforgettable experience. With the Super League table looking closer than ever, this year’s event promises to be one of the most exciting yet.

In an interview with Sky Sports, McDermott shared his predictions for the upcoming matches. He tipped Leigh Leopards to win by eight points against Catalans Dragons, Hull KR to win by 22 points against Salford Red Devils, and Leeds Rhinos to win by six points against St Helens.

For the Sunday matches, McDermott predicted Hull FC to win by 14 points against Huddersfield Giants, Wigan Warriors to win by 16 points against Warrington Wolves, and Wakefield Trinity to win by four points against Castleford Tigers.

The Magic Weekend is set to be an unforgettable experience, with Sky Sports providing exclusive live coverage of all the action. Don’t miss out on the excitement – tune in to Sky Sports to catch all the thrilling rugby league action.
