Supermarket Offers Double Loyalty Points for Easter Weekend Shoppers

Morrisons Offers Double Loyalty Points to Shoppers This Easter

In a move aimed at rewarding loyal customers, supermarket giant Morrisons has announced that it will be offering double loyalty points to all members shopping in-store or online throughout the Easter weekend. The promotion, which runs from Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21, will see customers accrue ten More Card points per product, effectively doubling the standard rate of five points.

According to a report by The Sun, the temporary boost to the More Card scheme will allow customers to accumulate points more rapidly, enabling them to reach the 5,000-point threshold needed to claim a £5 Morrisons Fiver voucher faster. These vouchers can then be redeemed against future purchases both in-store and online.

The move follows Morrisons’ recent decision to allow shoppers to earn points on all products across stores. Previously, customers could only collect More Points or enjoy discounts when purchasing selected items. However, in early December, the supermarket expanded its loyalty programme to include a broader range of products.

As reported by The Sun, Morrisons rebranded its loyalty scheme as MyMorrisons back in 2021, replacing the original Morrisons More brand and temporarily suspending the points collection system. Under the earlier scheme, customers were rewarded with digital vouchers that provided instant savings. By 2023, Morrisons reversed course and reinstated its More Points programme, much to the delight of loyal shoppers.

The latest change from Morrisons comes after Tesco and Asda made some tweaks to their reward schemes as well. Tesco recently launched a trial offering shoppers personalised discounts and offers, while Asda has ditched Star Products, with some shoppers saying they’ll boycott the retailer following the move.

How Does the Morrisons More Card Work?

The Morrisons More Card lets you earn points on purchases which can be used to get money off future shops. Once you get to 5,000 points you can keep saving, or convert them into a voucher worth £5 to spend in-store or online. You can’t earn loyalty points when buying certain products though, including tobacco and gift cards. The full list of excluded products is on the Morrisons website.

The More Card also gives you access to personalised offers based on your shopping habits, including discounts on specific products or extra points on certain purchases. You can get a physical More Card and scan it at the till or swipe a virtual card via the app when shopping in-store. If you’re shopping online, you can link the More Card to your online shopping account and automatically get points on your purchases.

Supermarket Loyalty Schemes

Most UK supermarkets have loyalty schemes so customers can build up points and save money while they shop. Here’s a round-up of what saving programmes you’ll find at the big brands:

  • Iceland: Unlike other stores, you don’t collect points with the Iceland Bonus Card. Instead, you load it up with money and Iceland will give you £1 for every £20 you save.
  • Lidl Plus: Lidl customers don’t collect points when they shop, and are instead rewarded with personalised vouchers that gives them money off at the till.
  • Morrisons: The My Morrisons: Make Good Things Happen replaces the More Card and rewards customers with personalised money off vouchers via the app.
  • Sainsbury’s: While Sainsbury’s doesn’t have a personal scheme, it does own the Nectar card which can also be used in Argos, eBay and other shops. You need 200 Nectar points to save up £1 to spend on your card. You need to spend at least £1 to get one Nectar point.
  • Tesco: Tesco Clubcard has over 17million members in the UK alone. You use it each time you shop and build up points that can be turned into vouchers – 150 points gets you a £1.50 voucher. Here you need to spend £1 in Tesco to get one point.
  • Waitrose: myWaitrose also doesn’t allow you to collect points but instead you’ll get access to free hot drinks, and discounts off certain brands in store.
