Tom Cruise: The Reigning King of Stunts
The world of cinema has long been fascinated by the death-defying stunts performed by Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible franchise. As reported by Joblo.com, the stunt work in these films has reached new heights, literally and figuratively. According to Simon Pegg, Cruise’s co-star in six of the Mission: Impossible movies, Cruise’s devotion to performing his own stunts is unmatched.
In an interview with Joblo.com, Pegg shared some behind-the-scenes stories that demonstrate Cruise’s commitment to his craft. "I’ve said, ‘You’re absolutely nuts’ many times to him," Pegg revealed. "But he just cares that much about it." This level of dedication has resulted in some of the most impressive stunts in cinema history, including the scene in 2011’s Ghost Protocol where Cruise hung off the side of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
As Joblo.com reported, Pegg witnessed Cruise performing this stunt firsthand, and described the experience as surreal. "You’re literally half a mile above certain death, and you’re just leaning out of the window and seeing Tom sort of hanging there, smiling, this big sh*t-eating grin on his face, like, ‘I’m having the best time,’" Pegg said. This stunt, and others like it, have cemented Cruise’s reputation as the king of stunts.
The latest Mission: Impossible film, Dead Reckoning, set to release on May 23rd, promises to deliver even more heart-stopping stunts. According to Joblo.com, Pegg described the motorcycle jump in Dead Reckoning as a nail-biting experience. "It was nail-biting, because we’d literally see [Cruise] just disappear, and then we’d have to wait to hear ‘good canopy’ [meaning his parachute opened safely] on the radio," Pegg said. "And so it was a kind of breath-hold moment."
Despite his bravado, Cruise is not immune to nerves. Pegg revealed that during the filming of 2015’s Rogue Nation, Cruise was visibly nervous while performing a stunt where he clung to the side of a plane. "That was the first time I’d seen him nervous," Pegg said. "There were a lot of variables involved in that stunt…a lot of things that could have gone wrong. Everything is managed to the micro detail. You know, the stunt team is amazing. Tom is obviously incredibly dedicated to making sure he’s ready."
As Joblo.com noted, Cruise’s commitment to performing his own stunts has raised the bar for action films. With the release of Dead Reckoning approaching, fans are eagerly anticipating the next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. One thing is certain: Tom Cruise will continue to push the limits of what is possible on screen.
The Mission: Impossible franchise has become synonymous with high-octane action and death-defying stunts. As Joblo.com reported, Cruise’s dedication to performing his own stunts has been a key factor in the success of the series. With his reputation as the king of stunts solidified, Cruise is set to continue thrilling audiences with his latest film, Dead Reckoning.
