Texas Longhorns’ Quinn Ewers and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders Remain Undrafted After Day 2 of 2025 NFL Draft
According to a report by Sports Illustrated, two highly touted college quarterbacks, Quinn Ewers of the Texas Longhorns and Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes, went unselected on day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. The duo will have to wait until day 3, which commences on Saturday, to potentially hear their names called.
The 2025 NFL Draft has seen a total of five quarterbacks selected in the first three rounds, with Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart being the only two quarterbacks taken in the first round. The New Orleans Saints raised eyebrows by selecting Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round at No. 40 overall.
Ewers and Sanders, who were expected to be selected in the earlier rounds, will have to wait and see if they can secure a spot in the league on day 3. Several teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers, were expected to consider taking a quarterback, but ultimately passed on Ewers and Sanders.
The Seattle Seahawks and Browns instead opted for Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, respectively, using their third-round picks. The Raiders and Steelers could still be in the market for a quarterback, with the Raiders holding the 108th overall pick and the Steelers holding the 123rd overall pick.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian recently spoke about his feelings ahead of the draft, particularly with regards to Ewers. "The quarterback thing, obviously, just because of my history, it kind of hits home a little bit differently, but I surely want every position group to have guys getting drafted," Sarkisian said, as quoted by Sports Illustrated. " … Quinn is going to make a great pro, and now we’ve got to recreate it here with Arch (Manning) and then Trey (Owens) and KJ (Lacey), so it’s all part of the process, but I’m proud of Quinn. He’s worked really hard. Somebody’s going to get a very good player on that front."
Ewers will join a host of other Longhorns who have already heard their names called, including offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., who was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 9th overall pick, cornerback Jahdae Barron, who was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 20th overall pick, and wide receiver Matthew Golden, who was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 23rd overall pick.
The NFL Draft is a critical event for teams to bolster their rosters, and for players to secure their place in the league. As reported by Sports Illustrated, day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT, and it remains to be seen whether Ewers and Sanders will be able to secure a spot in the league.
