Tottenham’s Trophy Drought Marked in Unlikely Domino’s Billboard

Tottenham’s Trophy Drought Highlighted in Cheeky Domino’s Billboard Campaign

In a bold move, pizza giant Domino’s has unveiled a live billboard outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, playfully highlighting the North London team’s prolonged silverware drought. The installation comes ahead of the Europa League final, where Spurs will face off against Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mamés in Bilbao. According to The Express, Domino’s has taken a cheeky approach to marking the occasion, one that is sure to grab the attention of Spurs fans.

The digital billboard displays a staggering figure, showcasing the number of pizzas delivered in the UK and Ireland since 2008, the year Tottenham last won a trophy. The total, which exceeds 1,569,226,205 pizzas, is enough to cover the Tottenham’s home ground a remarkable 25,873 times. As The Express reports, this visual representation serves as a poignant reminder of the club’s trophy drought, which currently stands at 17 years, two months, and 24 days, or 6,279 days, since their last major prize. This was the 2008 League Cup, when they defeated Chelsea 2-1.

A spokesperson for Domino’s was quoted in The Express saying, "We’re not taking sides, but if Spurs deliver in Bilbao, we’ll happily reset the counter to zero. We always deliver – now it’s their turn to do the same in the final. And of course, all eyes are on Ange… no pressure, mate." This statement, as reported by The Express, captures the lighthearted yet competitive spirit of the pizza brand’s campaign.

Tottenham’s recent history has been marked by a notable absence of silverware. Their closest attempt at winning a major trophy in recent years was in 2021, when they lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the EFL Cup final. A victory in the Europa League would not only bring a much-needed trophy to the club but also allow them to claim a ‘better’ season than their arch-rivals, Arsenal. The Gunners have had a commendable season, fighting until the late stages of the Premier League and the Champions League, before being eliminated in the semi-finals by Paris Saint Germain.

The pressure is mounting on Tottenham, particularly with former talisman Harry Kane enjoying success with Bayern Munich. Kane, Spurs’ most successful striker of the modern era, recently picked up his first major team trophy as a player, as Bayern clinched the Bundesliga, crowning them champions of Germany for the 34th time. As The Express notes, this development will only add to the motivation for Spurs to bring home a trophy.

The Europa League final presents a significant opportunity for Tottenham to turn their fortunes around and bring some much-needed silverware to the club. As The Express highlights, the team’s performance in the final will be closely watched, not only by their fans but also by their rivals. With the Domino’s billboard campaign, the spotlight is firmly on Spurs, and it remains to be seen how they will respond to the pressure. One thing is certain, however, as Domino’s so aptly put it, "we always deliver – now it’s their turn to do the same in the final."
