UK Set to Bask in 27C Heatwave as Scorching Temperatures Sweep in from Europe
The UK is set to be gripped by a heatwave in the coming days, with all corners of the British Isles set to bask in glorious sunshine, with temperatures in the mid to high 20s. According to the latest maps from WX Charts, Londoners can expect highs of 27C by the late afternoon of Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15.
Brits are gearing up for a scorcher as the mercury is tipped to soar to a sizzling 30C in just a few days, with the entire UK set to bask in another blissful heatwave. Oxford, Coventry, Manchester, and Liverpool are all on track to hit a lush 26C. Further north, Glasgow and Edinburgh are not far behind with a sweet 25C, while Belfast is also set to smash past the 20C mark.
The Met Office’s long-range weather prediction is serving up some good news, stating: “Much of this period is looking dry across most of the UK, with clear or sunny spells for many areas, as high pressure likely dominates the weather pattern across the UK.” However, at the start of this period, thicker cloud with some rain or showers, which could be heavy and thundery, is likely to affect at least the southwest of the UK, with a chance that more of the UK gets affected on Monday.
The end of this period may also be more unsettled, particularly towards the south or southwest, with rain or showers possible again. Met Office chief meteorologist Ian Lisk said: “It’s all to do with our old friend, the jet stream. Weather typically moves across the UK from west to east, but the north-south amplification of the jet stream has enabled areas of high pressure to hang around in the vicinity of the UK.”
This means our share of the more typical unsettled weather has been deflected away from us. It is a bit unusual for it to have been this persistent, and with the consequences of it bringing the very, very dry spring we’ve had. Today’s weather will see mostly sun with a side of raindrops. The forecast spills: “Staying mostly dry, with sunny intervals and a few isolated showers.”
Feeling warm in the sunny spells, but chilly at times around southern coasts with brisk winds. Chilly again overnight. And for the weekend, the forecast shows: “Remaining mostly settled with long clear or sunny spells Friday and Saturday. Turning cloudier from the southwest on Sunday with an increasing chance of showers, perhaps thundery. Rather chilly overnight.”
The Daily Star reports that while winds are expected to keep their cool with mostly light breezes, daytime temperatures are set to be a touch above what’s normal for this time of year. But don’t pack away the duvet just yet – there’s still a chance of some nippy nights in certain spots.
