Verstappen’s Shock Move Sparks F1 Rival Series Poaching Fears

Max Verstappen Open to DTM Switch as ADAC Chief Extends Invitation

In a recent development, Max Verstappen, the four-time Formula 1 world champion, has been given the green light to join the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series in the future by ADAC chief Thomas Voss. According to reports, Verstappen completed a secret test in GT3 machinery during his week off from F1, showcasing his interest in exploring other racing series. As reported by the Express, Verstappen’s interest in GT3 machinery is no secret, with the Dutchman owning his own squad in the GT World Challenge Europe series through his Verstappen.com Racing organisation.

The 27-year-old’s test session at the Nurburgring Nordschleife produced a new track record for GT3 machinery, as revealed by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. "GT racing is his great love, and he has his own team," Marko told Kronen Zeitung. "He told me that he beat a record by two seconds after just three laps, knew every one of his lap times and everything about the suspension. He was almost more into the details than he was with his Formula One car." This impressive display of skill has led Voss to express his confidence in Verstappen’s ability to master the DTM series.

"Max Verstappen is of course very welcome in the DTM," Voss revealed to Motorsport Total, as quoted by the Express. "Max is Max. I got to know him when I was still in Oschersleben and he drove a Formula season with Timo Rumpfkeil [in 2013]. He was already very strong-willed back then. I’m completely convinced: if he gets into a GT3 car, he’ll master it in no time. I think he’s fast in everything, and he’s a natural when it comes to driving. He just has so much fun driving everything he gets his hands on." Voss’s comments suggest that Verstappen would be a valuable addition to the DTM series, and his participation could potentially bring a new level of excitement to the competition.

Verstappen’s future in F1 has been the subject of speculation this season, following a challenging start to Red Bull’s campaign. The Dutchman has been linked with Mercedes and Aston Martin, but has previously stated his desire to compete in other racing series during the prime of his career. As reported by the Express, throughout the early parts of the 2025 season, Red Bull have pointed toward their Imola upgrade package to salvage Verstappen’s title defence. "The team has been working really hard, and we will need to hit the ground running," the four-time world champion explained.

The Imola upgrade package is seen as a crucial component in Verstappen’s title defence, with the Dutchman expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming event. "Imola is a really old school and iconic track that is really technical, and I always enjoy racing here. It is difficult to overtake, so qualifying will be key here," he said. While Verstappen’s focus remains on his F1 career, his interest in GT3 machinery and the DTM series suggests that he may explore other racing opportunities in the future.

As the racing world continues to speculate about Verstappen’s future plans, one thing is certain: the Dutchman’s talent and versatility behind the wheel make him a valuable asset to any racing series. With ADAC chief Thomas Voss extending an invitation to join the DTM series, Verstappen’s potential switch could be a significant development in the world of motorsport. As reported by the Express, Verstappen’s interest in GT3 machinery and the DTM series is a story that will continue to unfold in the coming months.

The news of Verstappen’s potential switch to DTM has generated significant interest among racing fans, with many speculating about the implications of his participation in the series. As the 2025 season progresses, all eyes will be on Verstappen and his team as they navigate the challenges of F1, while also keeping a close eye on his potential involvement in the DTM series. According to the Express, the possibility of Verstappen joining the DTM series is an exciting development that could bring a new level of excitement to the world of motorsport.
