KLM Open: Day 2 Brings More Challenges for Golfers
The second day of the KLM Open golf tournament, as reported by Golf.nl, proved to be just as challenging as the first, with strong winds and fast greens testing the skills of the golfers. According to Miguel Vidaor, tournament director of the DP World Tour, play was suspended at around 4 pm due to the harsh conditions and resumed at 7:30 pm.
The difficult playing conditions were a theme throughout the day, with gusts of wind exceeding 35 miles per hour. The field of 155 golfers struggled to navigate the 18 holes at Badhoevedorp, with an average score of nearly four strokes over par.
One golfer who managed to shine in the challenging conditions was Daan Huizing. After a disappointing triple bogey on the par 4 10th hole on day one, Huizing bounced back with an eagle on the same hole on day two, sinking a 144-meter shot into the hole. He followed up with birdies on holes 11 and 13 to climb up the leaderboard and finish the day at level par, tied for 20th place.
“As quoted in Golf.nl, I was in control and this is naturally a great tournament to be part of in the weekend,” Huizing said. “On 10, I was on the fairway and had control of the green. I hit a really good iron shot and the ball went in. Yesterday, I scored a 7, and today I scored 2.”
Huizing’s impressive performance was one of the highlights of the day, but other Dutch golfers also made a strong impression. Darius Van Driel, who had already completed his round, started the day well with three birdies on his first three holes. “As reported by Golf.nl, I had a great start, which I was very pleased with. After that, it was tough, but I played well and made par,” Van Driel said.
Van Driel’s round ensured his place in the weekend, and he will be joined by Lars van Meijel and amateur Björn Driessen. Van Meijel carded a 75 on day two to finish at +3, while Driessen produced a remarkable comeback after a 78 on day one, posting a 73 to finish at +1.
The top amateur, Driessen, was thrilled with his performance. “As quoted in Golf.nl, it was super. I’m really satisfied, especially after yesterday. Sometimes I got frustrated with my ball, but my caddie Stephan kept me calm.”
Other notable performances on day two came from Niklas Lemke and Jason Scrivener, who both achieved rare feats. Lemke scored an albatross on hole 3, holing his second shot, while Scrivener made a hole-in-one on hole 11.
Unfortunately, Joost Luiten missed the cut, finishing at +7. “As reported by Golf.nl, it was tough today, but I played poorly. If you have a choice, you want to be part of the weekend, but that’s golf. I wasn’t up to the conditions, and I need to make sure I’m playing well after my vacation.”
The leaderboard is now set for the weekend, with Huizing and Van Driel among the Dutch golfers looking to make an impact. As Golf.nl reports, the tournament has provided plenty of drama and excitement so far, and the final two rounds promise to be just as thrilling.
