The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Casting Rumour: Hunter Schafer Eyed for Princess Zelda Role
A live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is currently in development, with fans eagerly awaiting news on the cast. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, as reported by CBR, Hunter Schafer is being considered for the role of Princess Zelda. This news has sparked excitement among fans, who have been calling for Schafer to take on the role due to her physical resemblance to the iconic video game princess and her impressive acting abilities.
As reported by CBR, Schafer has drawn praise for her role as transgender high school student Jules Vaughn in the hit HBO drama Euphoria, and is set to return for the show’s third and final season. She has also appeared in The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and starred in the horror movie Cuckoo. “That would be so cool,” Schafer told Entertainment Tonight in 2023 about the possibility of playing Zelda, due to the fantasy casting online. “I played that video game a bunch when I was a kid. That’s such a good game,” she added.
While Schafer may be a strong contender for the role, CBR notes that no casting announcements have been officially made. The voice of the video game Zelda, Patricia Summersett, has also expressed interest in playing the live-action version of the character. Additionally, the role of Link will be a coveted position, with many hopefuls in Hollywood vying for the part. One popular choice with fans is Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Walker Scobell, although the actor himself seemed apprehensive about taking on the role if offered.
According to CBR, Scobell revealed he was familiar with the Legend of Zelda games, having played Breath of the Wild. “I haven’t played the new one, Tears of the Kingdom, but my dad loves Legend of Zelda. He played the games when he was younger,” he said. “Actually, I don’t know. I don’t know if I’d be interested in playing Link,” he added. “If they came to me, I’d definitely consider it, one hundred percent.”
The CBR report also revealed that the movie will be directed by Wes Ball, who has previously worked on Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are producing the film, along with Ball and his producing partner, Joe Hartwick Jr., via Oddball Entertainment. The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is set to be released in theaters on March 26, 2027.
As the search for the perfect cast continues, fans will be eagerly awaiting official announcements from the production team. With Hunter Schafer being considered for the role of Princess Zelda, it’s clear that the film is in good hands. As CBR reported, Schafer’s acting abilities and physical resemblance to the character make her a strong contender for the role.
